Alexander McKenzie, GM3ZBE Silent Key

Posted by Admin

GM3ZBE, Alexander McKenzie Allan, passed away quietly at home after a long illness. He had fought and overcome several serious health problems in recent years. A year ago he learned this illness was terminal and opted for difficult treatment. His friend, GM4WZG, says he was a man of selfless courage and determination, devoted to his wife and two children. They had a 160M QSO just a few weeks ago, where Alex was still chasing DX with a new trap inverted L with 32 radials. Alex was originally licensed as GM8BYG in about 1968, then GM3ZBE near Aberdeen in the northeast. He moved to Coventry, England from 1988-2005 with the callsign G3ZBE, retiring to Scotland in 2005.
