2007 SUMMER CONTEST
Well, the results are out at last and there were certainly some
large points totals as a result of great propagation for most of
the contest. There are some new calls in the frame for the various
section leaders and its also nice to see a good input for the QRP
section of the contest. Due to circumstances beyond his control,
our contest manager was unable to complete the logs and it took
some time to effect a transfer of responsibility for this. As you
might guess we are keen that this is not repeated this year and I
fully expect the results to be available very much sooner. In any
event, it was a most enjoyable contest for the majority of those
who took part and I will be very happy if we get similar
propagation for this year’s event.
I thought you might wish to know how the totals were determined as
it was done somewhat differently from our normal contest rules.
The appearance of several special stations helping to commemorate
our 25th anniversary event complicated the scoring slightly and I
will be the first to admit that our rules for scoring could have
been worded rather better than they were. All of the logs were
checked and scored to the same standard using the following
calculation:
- Total Score = (QSO total + Members + Bonus) x Countries x
Locators
- Bonus = 1 for working 1 special call
- 3 for working 2 special calls
- 5 for working 3 special calls
- 10 for working 4 special calls
- 15 for working 5 special calls
The stations qualifying for bonus points were: AN7SIX,
AO7SIX, EG7IX, EG7SIX, EH7SIX, G5KW, PA25UKSMG, SP25SIX
& TM6MG. I would like to thank all of them
for the time and effort taken to get these call-signs on air and
also a special mention for Dennis, PA7FM who co-ordinated the
event. As the special calls had an advantage over other entrants,
a one off extra category has been created for this event for these
stations only.
Only the first 5 or fewer QSOs with a special call counted for
Bonus points. Don’t worry if you think you scored your logs
differently; all the logs were checked to ensure that the maximum
score possible for that station was achieved.
Thank you for your patience, I hope the fantastic results achieved
in last years event will be repeated this year and that the
weather smiles on us all. See you in the contest!
Trev, G3ZYY
