Who are we? The UK Six Metre Group (UKSMG) was formed in 1982 with the primary aim of encouraging an interest in the 50MHz band by all amateurs. It maintains a beacon fund to finance and provide beacons in various parts of the world. Over the last few years the group has also supplied many pieces of equipment to encourage and help 6m enthusiasts activate new counties.
In 1994 it organised and sponsored the very successful JY7SIX DXpedition to Jordan. In 1995 its ex- Chairman, Geoff GJ4ICD, activated D44 - Cape Verde for the first time in several years. In 1996 we sponsored the expedition to Georgia (4L) AND the expedition to Sable Island (CY0)! In 1997 we helped Ezzat, SU1ER, get onto 6m and gave him a 100 watt amplifier and sponsored the CY9 DXpedition. In 1998 we helped TZ6VV get active from Mali by providing an antenna ( GJ4ICD provided a rotator).
So come on, help us by joining! The ambition of the UK Six Metre Group, through the medium of its 48-page quarterly newsletter, SIX NEWS, is to provide the best information available on all aspects of the band, including such things as DX news and reports, beacon news, propagation & technical articles, 6M equipment reviews, QSL addresses, DXpedition news, and technical articles. Why not join the UKSMG and give us a try? We have already attracted over 900 members in over 50 countries around the world. All newsletters outside of the UK are AIRMAILED to ensure prompt receipt.
