2008 Contest Results

Hi All.
First of all, many thanks for entering this years contest, some excellent conditions and propagation across the majority of Europe were enjoyed by many stations. As usual the logs were checked for accuracy and as a result, it is clear that many operators are giving membership numbers even though their membership of the group has lapsed. I have included these numbers for this year. Some excellent logs were submitted, well layed out with summary sheets and declarations as requested; unfortunately the majority of entries were received with either or both of these missing. This will be re emphasised in the rules for next years contest. Also it would be great to see more logs entered from UK stations, out of the 67 entries received there were only 12 from these shores, Im sure we can improve on this in the future.

Very well done to the section winners, HA6NL/P in the Single Operator section, the 9H6A team in the Multi Operator section, M1DUD in the Qrp section, and a fabulous score over 3.5 Million points for C4I in the Rest of the World section, and of course to BRS25429 for his entry in the Swl section.

Thanks for those that have supplied photos of their stations and reports, also
those who have made suggestions to improve the contest in the future, these ideas will be considered by the committee in the coming months. And finally, the date for next years contest will be the weekend of the 6th and 7th June 2009.

First time to work this contest. Band was not too good, and worked all I could hear when it was open. Made 19 QSO's, 2 DXCC Countries and 12 grids. Score 456.
Looking at previous contest results, not many US entries.

Robin, M1DUD
For nineteen hours of operation, I worked 69 contacts 49 locator squares and 17 DXCC's. Conditions were not easy. It was very frustrating that the propagation stayed in just one place for so long. The DX was tantalizingly close and so loud at times, but the QSB was so very cruel. I guess, by reading the reports of others, I was lucky! Certainly it was not a dull contest for me. By comparison, in 2007, using the same set up, I made 77 contacts spread over 57 locators, in 22 countries.

Quite enjoyed the UKSMG Es contest! There was Es Two new countries, ER and TA & eight new squares! The biggest surprise was, after calling CQ and being answered by OK2DW, my next CQ was answered by Ralph 4X1IF!!!! Me with my flee power.... I was so surprised that, before writing the report down in my log, I had forgotten what report I had given to Ralph.... I thought I remembered it was 569 but if the log of Ralph shows something different, you know the reason why..... Short term memory...... what's that again? Got his details OK and Ralph confirmed my details.... Unfortunately, C4I and SV9CVY both had piles up a wee bit too large. Would be nice to work QRP- DXCC #64 and #65 as well. Why weren't they in CW????

Fingers crossed for me to be the first to hear C4I (or any other 5B....) or any other Dx some day. If only to follow the example of (the late) PE1MHO/G7ECN to, some day, get DXCC QRP on 50MHz! If in 10 years I c
an still retire at 60, I might, giving me more time to monitor the Magic Band
Martin Steyer, DK7ZB
The conditions on Saturday where rather poor, on Sunday much better, but not to much DXCC-countries and only a short opening to the UK in the last 30 minutes at the end of the contest.
