2015 UKSMG Summer Contest Results
Turnout this year was slightly up on last year and considering the appalling conditions this is a good result. May I take this opportunity to thank all stations for abiding by the band plan as I have not received any complaints of infringements into 50.100-50.130 DX part of the band.

Conditions in the contest were very poor with sporadic-E only popping up for some stations for a few minutes if at all in the whole contest. It seems that the effect was most felt for higher latitudes suggesting that a coronal hole facing the earth was playing a big part in the lack of an e-layer. For those who had good take-offs enjoyed some reasonable contacts via tropo-scatter and some meteor scatter contacts were made.

Very mixed comments on conditions for this contest, for those on for the full 24 hours managed to find a few minutes of sporadic-E whereas a number of 6 hour contesters had no conditions at all and had a tough slog on average tropo conditions.

It seemed though that most enjoyed the contest and when the band was quiet it at least enabled some rest time and cw practice! Being in the right place at the right time was certainly evident. Last year saw a number of stations having QSOs with VK8, this year there was still some juicy DX to be had with Z35T working JH4IUO in PM64 for the ODX of the contest at 8966km and UV7E working HL5BMX in PM45 at 7517km. Showing that things weren’t too bad everywhere 8 stations had an ODX greater than 3000km.

Logging quality was mixed this year and common errors were incorrect serial numbers and some odd calls due to Mixing I’s and O’s with numbers. Many stations never logged the UKSMG numbers and therefore lost the multiplier which was a shame and some of these impacted in the challenge for the top slots. It is worthwhile at least checking prefixes before submitting as a number of these were obviously wrong and checking that reports make sense i.e. is 6/9 a report?

Well done to all of the section leaders and runners up and a special mention to UV7E who were the overall leaders when looking at all the scores.

AWFUL 6m Es conditions all Spring 2015.

5B4AAB
Only one hour on Sunday morning.

DL2OM

I was quite anxious to take part once more again in that contest. But how disappointing it was.
Almost none Sporadic E just tropo and MS. In this way it is a real challenge to accumulate QSOs and points.
Anyway it was fun after all. See you again next year.

EC1CT
Conditions were very poor. Some activity on sunday and only sporadic signal with much fading on saturday.
Will repeat next year. 73

G3SVD
Condx were abysmal only alleviated by some Es on Sunday even these were sporadic!
Signal levels were low and there was a distinct lack of club members active. Can we try a different weekend next year?
I think this used to be called the Summer Es contest !

G4ANT/P
Enjoyable contest which took part over field day and our radio clubs radio active weekend, E's were in very short supply,
but think this is the best we have done in this contest.

G5FS/P Hard going

G7RAU/P Tough condx but still great fun. Tnx for all qsos.

G8HGN
All QSO's via tropo' no Es on Sat' & little on Sun' when I heard one or two but no contacts.
What a shame condx conspired against this weekend. My logging prog',

GM3WUX
Pity conditions didn't do anything till the last hour.

GW0IRW/P
Two three hour stints (first 3 + last 3) generally flat conditions with just a few E's in the last hour or so...
WX was kind though :O)

M0MPM/P
some sporadic e heard M0NQN Flat and dreary!

M0OMB
Cdx flat with some 'E' to EA/CT in the last hour or so. Only available to operate on the Sunday. Tnks for the QSOs.

M0VCP
Poor propagtion on Saturday no SPE. Sunday morning again little in the way of sp E enhancement.
Sunday afternoon very short and localised openings to south East. Maybe next year we might get a decent opening!

I entered the summer contest from Orkney under the 6 hr portable section working from a location just out of kirkwall IO88MW
unfortunately after battling with wind and heavy sleet and rain ! i gave up after 2hrs and heard no stations so no score.
