Hi Members. I now have direct access to my home so please try out the new email address. Not much news to report. I spoke with N5OLS/KH8 on 10 metres last Friday and encouraged him to bring back 6M to Pago Pago when he returns after the Christmas break. The CDROM is great and I have been able to upgrade the DX Frequency list at the home page, I am going to attempt to attach it to email to G3WOS shortly. 15M has been open to Asia and Europe after 0700z so I will look out on 21.350 Mhz for any UKSMG calls after 0900z daily. I am waiting for 10M to improve. JA's HS0 and UW9 have been worked and I also heard some W5's last Friday so condx are steadily improving even though the numbers are not refelcting this. If you wait for the numbers like in 1988 you will miss out on the first EU openings by 1 year. Stay sharp and see you on the magic band. Happy Xmas from Steve VK3OT

HI.....MY NAME IS BOB AND MY QTH IS HAROLD WOOD NEAR ROMFORD IN ESSEX. I WAS LICENCED NERALY 2 YEARS AGO. LAST YEAR WAS MY FIRST YEAR ON 6M'S , I OPERATED DAILY USING 10 WATTS FROM MY YAESU FT736R AND A 5/8 WAVE VERTICAL ANTENNA. I FOUND THE BAND EXTREMLY INTERESTING AND ENJOYED EVERY MOMENT. I SUPPOSE MY BIGGEST PROBLEM IS THAT I LIVE IN A BUILT UP AREA AND HAVE A SMALL GARDEN, HOWEVER I HAVE JUST PURCHASED A 3 ELE BEAM AND HOPE TO HAVE THIS UP BY THE SPRING. LAST YEAR I WORKED OVER 25 COUNTRIES (EUROPEAN) AND I HOPE TO IMPROVE UPON THIS IN 1997. I HAVE FOUND THE UKSMG MAGAZINE VERY INTERESTING AND INFORMATIVE AND LOOK FORWARD TO RECEIVING IT AGAIN IN 1997. BEST WISHES / 73 / FROM BOB ADLINGTON G7UT0 ..JO-01-CN.

Any Linear Amp UK "6m Discovery" owners on line? What are the typical plate and grid currents for 750 W and 600 W output? My (two days old) amp seems to need about 700 mA for 750 W out. The 3CX800A7 data sheet claims 750 W output with only 500 mA. (I do have a bit low mains voltage, 220 V with full load. It could explain part of the problem.)

I'm visiting Harstad, North Norway (JP78?) next June (yes, middle of the Es season!) and hope to operate on 6m. Does anyone know what the rules are for 6m operation in Norway, as I think they still have some VHF TV? Also, what do you need to do to get a license: it would be nice to have a full LA call. Any info on operating in Norway appreciated. I've already got loan of an IC706, just need to sort the antenna out now. I'm looking forward to working everyone!

Just to clarify and correct earlier message from Chris, G3WOS regarding dimentions and specs of the new 6M EME array. The antennas are 'only' 66 feet long. Spacing is 37 feet horizontal and 35 feet vertical. Calculated gain is 19.65 dbd. HHope to be heard by many more stations on the next "listing test". More to follow here on e-mail. Will post notice when ready to start taking schedules. 73's Bob E-mail me at "aferrera@sprynet.com"

I am in California at present and have just visited Bob, K6QXY, in Santa Rosa. Bob has nearly finished his latest EME array (pictures on the site soon) which used four 28 metre (yes that's right) 6m beams. The top pair are around 75 feet off the ground. Commissioning will be finished and he will be looking for scheds within a few weeks. The UKSMG plans to run another EME listening test as we ran in 1993 in the next few months. In the meantime Bob now has an e-mail address if you want to take a note of it - aferrera@sprynet.com Perhaps you want a sched, send him a mail. I hope to be putting some recordings of 6m EME QSOs and/or echoes on the site soon. 73 Chris

I now have a web page. Since I am not yet fluent in html this is a very plain page just yet, hi! It will mostly feature my antennas. (starting with a 3-el yagi still in production) It also has a few links to other great pages. (under construction would be an understatement) It can be found at http://members.tripod.com/~ve9aa/index.html 7 3 -MIKE, VE9AA

I am nearly done testing and tweaking a "new" type of Ultralight 3-el 6m Yagi. It is designed to be inexpensive, and very light. Made with the Portable or Hilltopper operator in mind this beam could be used by those with very small rotors or limited space. Stacking 2 on a long mast could be possible as this beam is very light. Viewed from above (birds-eye-view) it looks like a diamond shape. It incorporates wire for the parasitic elements and a non-conductive boom. Great for a beacon antenna or smaller Dxpedition-type antenna. They should be available for beta-testing within the next month or so. I hope to be able to donate a few of these to rare 6m locations around the world for beacons or to less well-off ops that can't afford to ship a larger all-aluminum beam into their country. tnx for the post. If any Europeans are wondering where to go in '97 why not try EI now their regulations have been relaxed to inc TV hrs. There are half a dozen grids which have never been active, most are those usual ones in the IO40 line, but IO53 and 56 are also new. Also look at IN69 (Isles of Scilly). And why is Frank, BFM selling up? Must be time for a new radio!? 73 Neil
