UKSMG Chat room help page

To use the chat room you need Java & JavaScript enabled in your browser.
To set a "nickname" type your callsign in the box next to callsign and press enter. You can also use /nick newnick (e.g /nick G3WOS) on the input line. If you wish to send a private message to someone click on their name, remember to click on it again if you want to talk to everyone in the channel.
You can set up a private chat session with someone by double clicking on their nickname. When in that session you can check what's happening in another room by clicking a room button at the bottom of the chat screen.
Always click the 'X' button on the top right hand side of the chat window to leave a session or press the session button).
Sound has been disabled so that you can chat in the office!
If you access this chat room via a proxy you may have problems!
If you want to access the chat room on a regular basis it might be better for you to download a proper IRC client such as mIRC from www.mirc.com. When you have done this and installed it (entering your callsign as the nickname etc.), select the 'File' menu and press 'Connect'. When the Options menu comes up press the 'Add'. button. Type 'UKSMG Chat Room' in the Description field, 'fiasko.mah.se' in the IRC server field, '7000' in the Port(s) field and press OK. Select 'UKSMG Chat Room' and press the 'Connect to IRC Server' button. Cancel the IRC Channels Folder that comes up when it connects and type in '/join #lobby' in the window at the bottom of the Status Window. That's all there to it!

Chat Area

Displays the chat dialog currently in progress. NOTE: If your browser does not support JavaScript then you may need to use the commands below, rather than the fields on the web page.

The main area shows the messages you have sent and received. The current topic for this room, if any, is shown in the title bar.
The right list displays people currently in this chat room. Your nick (nickname) is displayed as bold. If you select one or more names from the list then your messages will only go to those people. There are two special colors that identify names:

blue indicates an operator that can issue commands to control the room.
green indicates a user with "voice", only users with voice can speak in a moderated room.
At the bottom is the input line. You can send a message by typing it on this line. A few basic commands you can enter are:

`/action message`	Sends an action (red) message.
/away message	The system will automatically send this message to anyone trying to message you. It is often used to tell people that you are away from your computer. If you no longer wish to be seen as away, then simply type /away with no message and the away message will no longer be displayed. e.g. /away I am away from my computer
/motd	Display the current "Message of the Day" for the server
/msg nickname	This command will allow you to send a private message to a specific user or send a message to an entire channel. Example: /msg G3WOS How are you?
/newjoin #room	To open a new temporary room for discussion #room - room name
`/nick newname`	Change your nickname
`/quit`	Leave the chat and disconnect from the server
/whois nickname	Displays information about a nickname including the host that they are logged in from, the server they are logged into, the channels they are on and the number of seconds that have passed since they last communicated with the server.
