Lucky southern Europe!!! Since September 2-nd was only one short
E-sporadic to G and PA here in KO24... I'm monitoring around 50.110 every
afternoon but no any signals was heard. And it is "hard" to see
TEP openings from southern EU to AF or SA. The only hope that
things will go better later in the autumn or during winter.

jet on this type of propagation from my loc. like EH7KW and UU7JM (KN74).
Yesterday also for first time hrd TR0A/b with 599. During opening TR8CA was

Seasonal conditions improving in ZS6, but still very poor compared to last cycle and a distinct lack of G, DL, OZ, PA etc. in our logs. Still high on many of our local DXers shopping list are C3, HB0, T9, OM, 1A0, UA and many others fairly common to European operators. Also from Africa, we still are looking for SU and 5A. Does anyone know if upcoming 3V8 expedition will have 50 MHz. Anyway, if you don't hear us it is a lack of propagation, not a lack of trying on our side.

Thanks for invoking "happy memories" of the DXCC desk boys. Im the proud owner of 3 DXCC certificates all with different numbers, the one they officially credited me with (in the end) was #110 and its dated my Birthday too!, I started with the same number as Nick G3KOX/5B4FL until Nick complained (cheers mate), he got to keep that one and I got a later number (which they had issued to someone else too and I got moved again) ....happy days

Re: G3RFS, DXCC #57. Look on http://user.itl.net/~equinox/dxcc.html and see the DXCC listing as issued by the ARRL. If you can count you'll find PA0ERA (my previous callsign) as #57, and G3RFS as #58 ...
Maybe it should be #57A and #57B (I know the ARRL duped #57).
Meanwhile, I am waiting for some action being transferred from Southern Europe to my latitude ... Cheers !

Hi all! The postman has just delivered my DXCC certificate (#247). Many thank to all who made this possible, especially LU9AEA 9mt first-ever contact on 6), the local 6m early-warning group, and all those of you who took the trouble to listen for my weak signals. I guess it proves (again) that you don't need a killer-station to get DXCC: just a little patience amd luck.

Re: PA0HIP. Willem, look at "http://solar.uleth.ca/solar/www/fof2.html" for the path. We're not there yet. In particul the first part from here to A4/A6 still has a too low F2Fo. When the F2Fo in the eastern-Med moves up as far as 12 MHz we could see the first multi-hops to VK6/8. That was last cycle, the path that occurred way before we even heard the first JA's. For the right order: first we had A4 tv, than VK's than UA/BY tv, than 9M-tv, than DU/VR2 and finally the JA's came. Yet a long way to go.

Looks like the old Indian Ocean scatter point is back again.
I worked hundreds of JA's with that mode (beaming 090) last
cycle. Ja's are already hearing EU TV, and the 5B4FL--VR2
scatter path reported today are indications that things are getting better by the day. JA's cu all in februari!!

5B is CEPT and that includes 6m, no problem. Propagation is usually included also! BTW when I went to CU2 with Neville G3RFS last cycle the local PTT were very helpful and gave us permits including 6m.

No CEPT for 6 m. in CT. When on IM56 we had to apply
for an special permit and had to use the Loule radio club
callsign, CS0RCL. No 50 Mhz allowed for foreigners as

I will scan in a map shwoing that VK overlies Europe from Portugal to eastern edge of balck sea and from Mediterranean to Northern Norway.
It cannot and should nbot in any way be construed that just because VK station cannot work 70 countries per year or 100 countries in a lifetime that we are in any way defficient in our operations.

Hello I hope that no one minds this advert.I have 2 6 ele DJ9BV 6m antennas for sale made by Eagle,they are brand new.They also have RG142BU (Teflon baluns) and will handle high power.I was going to use 6 over 6 but as the tower already has a TH6 on it, I am uncomfortable with the length the stub mast would need to be even with 0.6wl spacing.I have decided therefore to go for a single antenna with a longer boom (M2 JHV probably) so they are for sale.I would like £175 for the pair and I will split them of course.They are a nice antenna but I made a mistake.This will also allow me to get back on 4m which is important too!

re your TV QRM near 110, if signals are coming via tropo, they probably are
still polarised the same as they started. So try cross polarising your
antenna! (will probably mean putting your ant vertical, if the TV TXs are
horizontal), but this will not affect your signal after reflection from
ionosphere. (ask 3C5I, I think it worked for him! It worked for us in JY!) Good luck...

Bad luck here - got another TV signal with center 50.112 from
about 90 deg. direction (first was and is 50.108 from 240 deg.),
so have strong QRM between 50.106 and 50.113. Signals comming here
via tropo so DX-window is about closed for me... Only hope that
during openings DX stations will be not only on 50.110. Regards.

Many of you may have noticed increased ZS activity this past weekend during our VHF contest. Some of the rarer grid (including KG34 & KG54)stations were club field stations and direct addresses may be hard to find. Will try to get this info if anyone needs. Our TEP season now started in earnest but low solar number restricting us pretty much to the Med. Wish we had more ofthe G, DL, PA etc. openings of the last cycle. Friday a holiday in ZS so watch the band for us if you have the opportunity. Hope there are some pileups to see you in!!!

Did I miss a good opening late last night? I will stay up late tonight and monitor to PY etc and also ZS. To ZS is tough as I beam towards the TV TX and of course the noise canceller cannot take out the TV noise. There was nothing last night up to 2140 anywhere - no beacons,no QSOs. I'll look to the north in the middle of the day, Sat & Sun, for more G, ON stations like last week. Cheers

Last evening produced our first decent opening of the TE season. Although restricted mostly to the Med, also had a brief QSO with DL7AV. Late evening band stayed open within Africa and heard 3C video up to 2100, TR8CA and TR8XX both S9, no other Africans heard (except very weak A25/ZS6BTE on BS too weak to work). NOTE TO AFRICAN STATIONS: Watch for openings to ZS 1800-2100 when condx are good, ZS6DN beacon on 50.150 best indicator. Call on 50.110 if bcn heard. We know TY, 9G, EL, TZ are out there and ZS6 boys would dearly love to QSO them. Next four weeks will be best opportunity for it to happen. See you in the pileups!!

3C0R?? Jose, EH7KW reported that they did take a 6m. rig and antenna. Heard today that they had several days of sea sickness getting to 3C0, and that they have been working 10, 15, 20 the last few days but were having interference problems on 6m (not sure of details? TVI?). Let's hope that they get active on 6m. Right now, it's dead from 3C5 altho' cluster shows TEP going right over my head.

Why 3C0R don't work's on Six meters when european propagating condictions get better?????
Yesterday from 15.00 to 17.00utc i have receive the 3C TV carrier with great signal for long time, but 3C0R was working on 10mt and 15mt.
I hope for the future.... and, if is possible i like to say what is the 3C0R's working condiction in Six.

after two years of hard work, I am glad to announce that I have realized the first (at least I hope), " DXCC IN REAL AUDIO ON THE INTERNET", related to the six meter band.
For this pourpose I have tried to record the signals from 100 countries as were heard on my rig; some of them are, of course, low in quality because of the weak signal (not always you have the dx at 59 level!), but the majority of them is really good.

Yesterday at 17Z got ZS2SIX bcn (KF25ux) for more than 1 hour. It's the 1st time I heard it. It peaked S9 +10dB. No ZS1/2. Called twice on .110, only replying Ivo, ZS6AXT. Z22JE and 7Q7RM were loud. Did ZS1/2 see anything from EU ?

3C0 expedition: not sure if they were able to take 6m equipment with them to Annobon Island. Watch out for them this week and next, just in case. Use the 3C TV on 48.2504 after 14:30Z as a guide. It seems like the peak times to Europe at present are approx 12:00 then again 14:00 to 16:30Z.

JY6NX - a JA operator is currently based at the JA embassy in JY6 and has 6m capabilities. He was recently been on 10m looking for 6m contacts. Regarding the beaconfrequencies it might be a good idea to situate new beacons higher in the band. The lower portion is getting more and more in use for special propagation studies and applications. As an example 50.085 for over the pole study and 50.000-50.030 as EME qrg's. Since the CW operation is getting more lower than .100 it is worth thinking on a reallocation of the beacons. Maybe something like the 144 MHz bandplan? 73,

OX3LX reported strong 59.75 (Aural TV) from N. America last night. At about the same time, the OX3VHF/B was heard by VE1RG and WA1T (FN43). Both OX3LX and OX3JX were active at the time. Attempts to reach them via the Logger failed. I believe that at least two stations down here could have made a QSO (I never heard anything). F5QT will leave France on 23.09.99. First, he will stay one week in Reunion Island by FR5GX. He will put there a
new beacon : FR5SIX, 1,5 watts, on 50.022,5.
Then, Jean Paul will be QRV from 5R8EE QRA, with IC706 and 5 el Yagi. He will set a new beacon, 5R8EE, on
50.225.
The 5R8 Jean-Paul callsign is not yet arrived. He is waiting for it !
F5QT will be back in France on 15 november.
5R8EE has a big problem with the mail. Most of the letters received from hams, are opened during the way, the
green stamps are stolen and the QSL distroyed.

PARAGUAY REPORT: Six is finally opening in Paraguay. September 5 producted first QSO/signal heard in months with SV1DH at 1800 gmt. September 8 heard Texas - W3XO/5 at 0028, N5WS at 0030-0100. 8P6CV at 0115 and first beacon this season heard being YV4AB. There are several very active ZP's ready for action. Anyone succesfully found a way to gets his/hers antenna free of birds? ( in an animal friendly way pse ). I used a scare owl that worked only temporarily and I even changed my beam from horizontal to 45 degr. polarisation as a test. It all doesn't seem to work !. Who has some usefull tips ?. TNX and 73

48.250MHz TV heard short path in VK Sept 3, 4 & 5. Up to S2. I live in hope! Unmanned beacon operated by Brisbane based VK4 on 50.106 prevented much being heard on 6m Saturday morning. Good 28MHz longpath today (5/9/99 20:00z) with CT, EA, & I stations heard. 48.250 in noise.

Hi Scott - VK4JSR! I hear OZ often! Usually short path but also sometimes
long path over west indies and pacific.
I sure would like to call u guys on 28 but so far I have not upgraded my license and there is still some 100 hours of
practicing code for me. But I do listen a lot to 28 and CB DXers on middle 27 because there is always somebody on and
usually when they are 59+ it gives 6m propagation. 73

TZ6VV gottaway once again! This time closer than ever before - heard and called for over an hour, then suddenly "GU6 go again" - then the signals just disappeared - AAAAAAAGH! That big pile of scrap
aluminum in the English Channel is probably the antenna I vented my frustration on .... maybe tonight instead? As this isn't the gripes and groans page I won't repeat my thoughts on all the dupers I heard in the pile up. LU2MHP also in at 18:20. Good to hear some decent DX at last! 73 all

are 6dB down more...Now at -17 dB. Fieldstrength measurements
of the Dutch PTT showed an decrease of 1,5 Volt in fieldstrength at a distance of @20 metres. 73,

Hi all Sixers the old feelings of good propagation and real DX are coming back. Yesterday evening heard from 17:45 > 20:00
ZS6BTE, ZS6EZ, TZ6VV, 9J2BO, CX1CCC (5-75-7 QSO) and LU7DZ.
Running a new 5el. Yagi now which is optimized for better radiation pattern. PC QRM is much lower now and
sidelobes 6 dB down. Will stack 2 of these next year when the permit for a higher mast is

Remi, Seems that you and the YL, SP, OZ, SM0 and DF/DJ stations had a spE cloud over central Europe, launching into the TEP duct, that's why all signals this end were so weak. The fact that the huge QRM machine on the northern shore of the Med had no skip made the QSO's possible.

Hi there. Yesterday, 02.09.1999, was a great evening for me -
TZ6VV sounds better then some locals for few hours. Another
surprice was ZS6AVP and ZS6BTE - another new country and two
new squares. Fantastic! I'd like to thank bots ZS6 stations for they
patience - it was not ease to hear me with my 10W and 6 el.
So now I'm on my half-way - have worked 50 DXCC and hope that
TEP will be more often guest in KO24. Good luck to all!

tz6vv was omn 160 in the noise for a long time but very week here. after more as 1 hour listening he became 59 for 5 min and u worked him.
later jy9nx turned on his radio and gave cq 59 on 110 also worked here the lu and cx boys where weak in north pa0 land.
anyone for the locator of jy9nx? i did not wrote it down in all the excitement!

Now back in U.K. from VP2M. Activity on Six restricted to six QSO's with local Islands and one very brief opening to Florida which yielded two W4 stations. 28 MHz constantly very busy world-wide but regular CQ's and monitoring of Six - disappointing results.

3C5I is QRV again, after no antenna in the new QTH and too much work. I have a 6el at 25ft, instead of 2 of them at 40ft, in order to keep neighbours in this "little Dallas housing development" unperturbed!! It looks like there is no TVI etc, but there is certainly a lot of computer hash etc in the camp. Anyway, I'm up and running again in time for the equinox. The noise canceller works really well with 50db+ null on the 3C TV noise. See you on the band.

The F2-MUF (see: http://www.ips.gov.au/asfc/current/rworldmap.gif) is rapidly rising again. Looking at the current development of both the flux and SSN F2-propagation should become like what we had in the fall of '88 or spring '89. This means quite regular F2 openings from C-Eu to Af, S+C-Am and possibly Australia. If the flux is willing to rise to the 200 level (on avarage) we'll be on track for even better things.
