Magnus SM6WET, PA3HEN/MM will most listen on .110. As soon there is activity he will move to .130 or around. He is a keen operator and improving his skills on CW. So go for 15 WPM if sig's are not good enough for sideband. His stn: 100W in a 2,5 dBD nondirectional antenna. 73,

I've been watching "http://www.ips.gov.au/asfc/current/rworldmap.gif" quite often lately and the maps show one thing clearly. The F2-season (for us) is over again. About every day the line of Fo=14 MHz moves further away. Nothing new, it was like that in the previous cycle aswell. But this line right now is moving so far away, that I wonder if we will even get the regular access via ES in the coming month. To Mike VE9AA, in your area it's the same as here. It still doens't look like the '88 season. Can anyone see the light at the end of the tunnel?

Pleased to receive fb qsl card from Jack V51KC today. One good reason for the delay of qsl could be change of qth. Full address for V51KC is :- Jack Anderson, PO Box 1246 OKAHANDJA, Namibia. Unfortunately, Jack does not show his QRA Locator Square on the qsl card. I have it as JG 88 but stand to be corrected. Hope this info is of some help. QSL card took one week air mail from Namibia. 3B9R, Rodriguez Island. Last minute update. The DXpedition team is rolling out. We are converging on this island from five continents. I have assembled the six meter station and it is, for the most part, already in 3B8. We are experienceing some difficulty with 3B8 customs but are confident that all will be resolved once we appear in 3B8. I am planning to be on 3B9 on the evening of the 31st of March and, if all goes well, be fully operational on 1 April starting with the morning opportunites to Japan. I will run an attended beacon calling CQ on 50105 KHz. Please list for instructions to respond. I will start out with the plan to listen on 50115 KHz. This procedure may change if I find it does not work. My intent is to transmit on a clear frequency and avoid blind callers, if at all possible. I will be running 100 Watts to a 1.2 wavelength yagi. I will be located in the town of Port Matherin on the north central side of the island which has unobstructed view of the horizon from JA around to all of EU. I will try to gain as much elevation of the antenna as is permissible. I will be calling toward JA from 05 to 09Z and to EU from 09 to 17Z in general. I will also be calling to NA on the long path from 02 to 05Z. Of course, I will alter the pattern if I catch an opening. Good luck to you all. Operating this six meter staion is my primary reason for going on this incredible trip. I will be as excited to work you as any of you in working me. Good luck. Ned Stearns, AA7A

On ch.2 we already saw four diiferent stations with various offsets; also a few on ch.3 and ch.4. A progreess report on the ill-fated VK6RSX...The mast has survived, but the antennas a "damaged"; possibly repairable. The tx's were shelf mounted about 2m above the floor and were dislodged when the building "moved" in the cyclone. They crashed to the floor. As the power supplies are inbuilt, it is expected the damage will be significant. Replacements are being looked into, but work will be of a low priority until the community returns to normal.

Regarding 50.110 when band is good to Europe. USELESS to call on that frequency because everyone is on it it. ZS6AXT & ZS6BTE usually work CW below .110 and SSB ops like myself move up. I try to find a clear spot anywhere up to .130 or so. Have heard ZS ops often around .150 and even .200 so look a little higher for us. ZS6s are mostly concentrated in a small area around Johannesburg & Pretoria so have to spread out to avoid QRMing one another.

Band poor here yesterday compared to some of the previous days. Monday is a holiday in South Africa so ZS activity should be fairly high for the weekend. Willem, we are waiting to say hello to our old friends in G, PA, OZ and other countries further north. Most operators here work until 1500Z with only a few lucky ones like ZS6AXT that can monitor all day. I have a rig at the office but have a hill to the north. When condx sound promising I will go home but it is about a 25 minute drive. Have been trying when possible to take a lunch break at the house from 1100-1200Z which has been a good time for the Ukraine and adjoining countries. Hope to see many of you in the pileups over the weekend.

RE:a few. Yes Willem, I ment Fo, you're right. To the rest, no I'm not talking about the odd opening that might occur. I'm talking about the progress of the cycle. In the fall of '89 it wasn't the odd opening, it was "right" on most days. Which doesn't mean it has to be like that every time, but just a little bit would be nice. Or was last cycle just the exception to the rule? So far this "winter/spring" looks more like '88, and with just about one year to the predicted peak of this cycle, it makes you wander. At least it does me, apperently not you !

Very well said VK3SIX ! I've been active on 6m listening and tx'ing for over 20years and each cycle, has in my experience been different. So all the hullaballu (that has been going on for months, may be even 12months!!!) is to most people, the few winding up the many, crazy....I know I don't have to read the emails but ....well you do .....?...don't you !. The main way of any DX'er on 6m OR ANY BAND is to 1st to understand the vagueries of the band (6m GOD help us) and to LISTEN,the undeterminable thing we all have to put up with is LUCK. I have been "lucky" with the experience of the 1979-80-81 swl'ing (3ele cuscraft[for dx tv]and h/b converter and HF rig), and the flexible hours I could achive in the last cycle,DXCC country's worked exceeded the magic 100 in 1990...so yeah I think (taking into acount our 100w erp limit...Mmmmm) we in the UK especialy fortunate, this coming cycle is gonna be in some cases HELL,it was chaos last time when something rare came on, so it's not going to change. But lets all have fun ( my YL witnessing one such episode said "you call that fun...I'll take you Christmas Eve shopping next time"....QED) Well what the hell does she know? cheers David G8GXP

PA1SIX Peter to stay in this game you need intestinal fortitude. Down under it takes 20 years to get DXCC not like you chaps 70 per year. Welcome to the real world of dxing where dx doesnt just fall into your lap, it takes effort and comittment and you have to give up a life. VK to EU is not easy it is the worlds longest dx short path and every dx contact I made with few exceptions was initiated from this end and these days you cant just transmit during peak tv hours towards europe without someone knocking on your door. VK3LK has left the district the VK5's have TVI problems VK8ZLX has left PG66 leaving only VK8GF to anchor the path and I have to go to VK3SIX site to operate with impunity from TVI so who you gonna work on the 330 degree path from here to Europe 6PA/6JQ maybe 6ACY and 6RO but they are off the beam a bit and 8GF for sure and thats about it. Welcome to the real world of reality on 6M down under. When we told you guiys about TV last year we got poo pooed that as you guys werent hearing 46.172 or 240 then the band was not open. Well the TV stations are 800 and 1900 kM from here and this was the traditional first landing point for the long haul dx from Europe in 89/90/91/92 after passing over VK6PA/8ZLX and I have told you my situation so you had better start liasing with other VKs on 28 or Internet to give some advance notice. Have you got phone numbers ready? Email addresses? Do you know VK operating habits, who is on in DU? KG6 YB9? KG6DX and KG6JDX are no longer in Guam they are in Misawa JA7 so who is anchoring the Sth East Asian region? Its up to you to find out beacuse from this end you only have to look at the late night clusters to see who is operating.. A couple of VK8's a VK4 or two no VK5's a one VK3. Also VK2QF is ever vigilant but the only station west of the dividing range who has any idea what to look for in the way on indications. Have you got his email and number have you looked on his home web page to see what his operating habits are? 73 and happy hunting, its up to you.

GREAT NEWS to hear that JR6VSP, Masa and more than 10-JR6 stations in Okinawa paradise (PL36) worked A61AH with RS59 to +20dB over S9 at peak at 1048-1120z tonight for the first time from JA!! Almur's voice from diploe antenna was unbelievably very loud until 1200z according to Masa while VK3 was strong in central JA. FB DX!

Peter PA1SIX Peter You probably mean "Critical Frequency"instead of MUF???. The MUF has been well above 30 MC the last couple of days .But nevertheless guess we'll have to wait till october for the next F2 Prop. 73 Willem PA0HIP

Call me a pessimist, I don't care. It just looks like another season lost. Not even a single sign of dx, so we'll have to wait for the ES-season at the start of may to come to our rescue. The MUF in the F-layer reaches only 10 MHz and that's still some 4 MHz short of what we need to see 6 meter come alive. Look at the live MUF-page http://www.ips.gov.au/asfc/euro_hf/euromap.html and see if the MUF at a distance of about 2000~2500 km gets up to the 14 MHz mark. If it does, go for it !!!

HELP!!! Sri, not 6mx related but do any of you guys in EU have any info on Icom IC-u4E 70cm H/H??? How on earth do you change the repeater offset from 7.6MHz to 5.0MHz? I have tried holding the lamp button down whilst fiddling with the UP/DN switch (as per IC-u2) to no avail. Is there a bridgepad inside or something to change this? Desperate!

Hello ! As there are still some people missing the EK6AD QSL, like myself!! Maybe it is a good idea to try the same way as Chris (G3WOS) did back in sept 98 via DHL. That try was very succesfull ! So why not try the same way again !! I am willing to set it up, and Chris helps me with info. So I would like to know WHO wants to join this try to get the QSL's via DHL to Evgeni (EK6AD). It will cost some money to get it there and to give Evgeni the possibility to return to us. Please sent me a E-mail if you are interested. (PLEASE NO QSL's and other things yet !!!!!) I first want to know how many people are interested !! When I know how many people join we can find out abt the costs per person. (I think when we get abt 20-25 people to join the costs will be approx US$ 5) 73 Arie / PA2TAB / uksmg # 909

Thinking back to my PJ2/OH1ZAA expedition of 1992, I would like to call for extra attention regarding the Japan-Caribbean path, during the local Caribbean mornings for the rest of this week. We had multiple 50 MHz openings from FK52KG back then...... My quick two-minute Cycle 23 forecast (read guess) is a smoothed Sunspot Number of 88 peaking within two years. If it goes like in Cycle 9 or 15, then it can be somewhat more..... Well, now it is easy to be an optimist for anyone else..... who dares? ......In any case there is a lot of DX to work already with this flux of 110... look at the reports.... Catch 'em.... 73, "Zaba" OH1ZAA/2 (KP20) ...

Adrain, ex ZC4MK telephoned Sunday. If you still need a 6m ZC4MK QSL (no HF!) You can send to his new address and he promises to answer ASAP. He has found some ZC4MK QSLs and his old 6m logs. Adrian McGonigle, 7 Kingfisher Cresent, Rayleigh, Essex, SS6 9TT, UK. There also looks like being a HF+6M DXpedition sometime during June/July to ZC4 by a group from the RAFARS. More later.

Re: PA0OOS/Dig-Sat.: Same over here, Jaap. Digital Sat equipment is in use by few guys in the hood since December 98. Terrible carriers all around, not only on 6 but on 144 too. Got noise peaks all 7,4 KHz, both 50 and 144 MHz up to S9+++ and carriers "walking around"...Thats the future, guess it's only starting waht we will have the next few years. 73 Udo, DK5YA ; http://www.qsl.net/dk5ya

Since a couple of days I'm receiving a lot off data between 46 and 53 Mhz, probably because of the telephone pole just 1 Km away (antenna direction fits). Does anyone of you have similair trouble with "packet liked data" and know how to deal with it, please let me know. perhaps a band filter would help ?? 3B9 Rodrigues Is. My gear is already enroute to 3B8. I will be arriving on 3B9 on 31 March and the six meter station will be active starting 1 April. I will be running 100W and a 5 element long yagi. I will be running an attended beacon on 50.105 on CW listening on 50.115. Six meter operations will run through 11 April. I will also be active on the other HF bands and will monitor 28.885 from time to time, making announcements on that frequency if I detect propagation. This station will run 24 hours a day. I will post more information here just prior to my departure from Arizona on 29 March. 73! Ned
