Re:50.450:- This frequency is used in ZS for "long distance, weak signal" FM
work. Some ops that only have FM capabilities operate there, as well as on 51.400 to the
South (ZS2/ZS1). These frequencies are not all that active at the moment although 51.400
is also linked to a repeater (145.100/145.700) in ZS2. The 51.400 link has a yagi pointing
north. The only other signal on 50.450 is the beacon on ZS8. This is a low power beacon
that transmits a voice ID using FM. I am not sure weather this beacon is still in
operation. ZS6WB supplied the beacon, I think, so he may be able to shed some light on it.
As far as 50.300 is concerned, I don't know. 73 de

A watched pot never boils, HI HI. But I think if the band opens again this afternoon
there will be more stations QRV than yesterday. The three of us made quite a hoo-ha about
the opening yesterday on the packet network here in the Cape Town area, so a few more
stations are expected to be QRV today. It is a difficult time of the day as most people
are in transit between work and home at this time of the day. I made a 'ponecall to ZS2FM
early this morning and he promised he will alert the few ops there (we'll see-HI). Did
anyone hear the ZS2SIX/b beacon on 50.005 yesterday? ZR5ADQ was surprised to learn about
the contacts to TR8CA and TR8XX. Said he heard nothing at his QTH (ZS5) P.S. As I was busy
typing this, I just heard about 30sec of I0JX on 50.004! Looks like we may have a repeat
of yesterday? I am holding thumbs. I need EH for a new country still. try to work me if
you can hear me. vy 73 de

Steve (VK3OT/KL7SIX) Does WHO think??? ---FO5. The UKSMG coming_home page and cluster
info is very usefull to me. I cannot operate from home so I go /P ... watching this page
gives me some idea of what is coming my way. GJ4ICD reports of stuff from the south are
particularly useful as I can usually get a sniff from here. Of course the best DX
indicator is silence on the cluster - everyone is working the DX. The REAL waste of time
is the 50MHz Prop Logger " Hi Joe, gud signal here - I'm in the next street" 73

50.050 is FO5DR/ waste of time spotting on clusters. Does he think that FO5 's are on
the internet with a permanent link or KL7's for that manner. Damn clusterss pervasive and
a waste of valuable dx time. not to mention PC noise on 6M. What ever happened to skill

WOW!!! Had our first DX here AT last! This afternoon the band started to show signs of
opening up at just before 15h00ut when both 48.250 video and 49.750 was coming into ZS1
stronger than usual with 48.250 reaching 40dB over S9. 50.110 was useless and ZR1ADI found
himself on the recieving end of an Italian pileup on 50.140. I gave some calls all over
from .110 up to .210 and worked only two stations before I had to leave to pick up the XYL
at her saltmine:-(( She kindly offered to get the bread&milk while I rushed back home
.. in time to find the band closing rapidly at about 16:10ut. I made the contacts count,
however. Worked a new DXCC country (TR8CA) and heard many EH stations that I also need for
a new country, but did not manage to break the pileup in the few minutes I had to do so.
Worked I4GOC as well on 50.145 (5/8). Heard SV1DH on 50.110, but he had difficulty hearing
me and we switched to CW but then I was QRM'ed by a local station and could not complete
the QSO. The I0JX beacon on 50.004 was a solid S2 and the only other beacon heard was TR0A
on 50.047 (actually a bit higher on almost 50.048 on my radio) at a good S7-9 with QSB. No
sign of either 5B4CY or the SV1SIX beacons at all....Strange! ZR1ADI said he worked 10
stations on 50.140. We were joined by ZR1TRD who also worked a few stations including
TR8CA. Sorry this is so long, but we are all very pleased to work our first DX this far
South for this cycle. vy 73 de

A simplified explanation for the 28/50 MHz differences is that the 50 MHz signal
penetrates the electron densities deeper to meet its point of reflection, and therefore
has a different geometry on a given path. Similarly on HF lower frequencies get "lost
between blankets" of Es and F2..... 73, Zaba OH1ZAA ....

The events between ZL3 and W5/6 and VK4 and W0 when 10M was really bad show that
sometimes 10M can not be relied upon to advertise 6M happenings. This occured all the time
during the VKL3 to EU paths in 1989/91 when it was impossible to hear what was taking plce
over 885 until after the event. I worked Ron VK4BRG prior ro his 6M opening and had to run
500 watts to make the path on 885. We gave it away due to bad signals and local qrm and
then 6M opened up, it shows why we call it the magic band and no on really knows why it
does what it does, we just think we do.

after 1 1/2 (!) hours later, C56A was readable for around 3 minutes. Worked him at 1729z!

CONTINUED from ONE down ......Fierce aurora's may generate a different reflection mode
from the more Northern parts of the continents. With a ground reflection in the North
Polar region good corresponding regions for station location are on both sides (KL7 and
Europe) at around 70 N latitude, but coupling to lower latitudes is most probable through
skew ionization profiles. During mid winter it is very unlikely to have much solar
ionization around the North Pole as a 2500 km radius (5000 km diameter) ground zone is
completely cast in darkness...... Look out for the geomagnetical exceptions! ... Good

Great to see all the activity from Southern Europe toward Southern Africa while the
flux is low down (105-115).... To be more specific about the VK-EU path and KL7-EU path,
the latter is by far more difficult, and presumed optimum times and modes differ a
lot....The VK-EU path is most likely in the 8-13 UTC window from late October until early
March, given that the flux is over 140 or so. There are no absolute minimum limits.....The
KL7-EU path is best during and after high solar X-ray bursts around the equinox periods
(October and March)..... CONTINUED in the NEXT (up ONE)....

On behalf of the cabin confined amateurs of Alaska thanks for the responses and support
for the task at hand, making EU to Kl7 and alerting regional ops that now is the time to
take dust covers off rigs. VE7BEE, VE4KQ, VE5UF, VE9AA are all active and we have phone

KL7-EU path: it is only 4.000 - 6.500 km for this path. One advantage is that during
aurora most antennas are pointing in the Northward direction. Is there already a
power-beacon around Point Barrow, AK? The OH1SIX (KP01) and OH9SIX (KP36) beacons are
operational with good ERP. SK3SIX was audible in the aurora. LA7SIX (now in JP89) should
maybe have another "outlet" toward the North....Regarding VK-EU, I was probably
the first one to work VK3OT on 50 MHz from OH, after OH1VR had heard Steve; I'll check the
logs, or maybe Steve's memory works faster?..... The chances are open to others now; I'm
about 160 miles from my operating position...With a high flux the time is right (up to

In a 10m contact with Steve Kl7SIX we discussed the psychological boundary that
inhibits one from the ultimate goal on Six metres. (By ultimate [personal] goal I clarify
- DX being > 15,000km and new DXCC's, not grids or states [a bit of a bore and log jam
when an opening may last 2 minutes]. Put simply it is a "mindset" that the other
side of the world is unattainable, THIS IS WRONG. The necessary attitude is that 15,000 to
20,000km contacts or long path is and will happen with the correct input from anywhere in
Australia. I was a fool to discount the first report by OH1VR of VK3OT being heard back in
1988. This is an example of the "mindset problem". Similarly W6JKV/CT3 Madeira,
I can recall not watching for this missed opportunity, the signal did reach Australia but
was missed, same reason. 73 de Nev VK2QF.

Re DARN Radar on 49.640 heard possibly by VK4JSR I will attempt to make a recording
which i will upload to G3WOS for inclusion in our data base. I will do one in SSB mode and
one in AM mode to show the sound that this high power radar makes. Apparently it has a
very narrow high angle beam with high erp and uses a PRF approaching 300 or 400 Hz by the
sound of it.

Steve is absolutely right about the KL7-EU path....the greatest fun is assuming that
the bands are open, and trying to proof that it isn't so. We have read funny stories about
Pacific stations listening in to mainland nets, with people claiming that the band is
ABSOLUTELY dead.......One problem is to keep up the feeling that actually something is
happening "on the other end". It is very frustrating if one is SURE that there
is nobody there.....The cluster is not a good indicator. With Monday's aurora there were
loads of LA/OH/OZ/SM and Baltic stations calling and working on 50 MHz, but just a few
reports on the OH2AQ-cluster, which gives a very distorted impression..... However, at
other times there really aren't too many stations despite good aurora..... What to do
about this to keep up the morale for the persistent operators?.....KL7 to EU: it could
happen ANY TIME; no need for excessive flux or aurora; just an exception to the
non-existent rule..... Like I say: the sky is no limit..... Keep trying....73, Zaba OH1ZAA

objects, I am sorry but I do this in an effort to focus the attetion of people on the task
at hand, to be the first to work KL7 and also to bend the mindset that appears to be in
place at oth ends of this yet to be proven path, that it ant be done. I didnt get to be
Oceanias only DXCC holder south o the equator by saying it cant be done. I worked VK0 by
being a pain in the ass and continually baggered people in to listening out for the VK0

it is only a matter otime and who will do it. If you dont wat to be part of the attempt

I would like to share these thoguhts with you re working KL7 on 6M::::::::::::::: 6 M
Operators here who was around last sunspot peak say that dont expect F2 openings here
until next year (second half 1999). I hope they are wrong Hi. ! Well, lot of talk hi...
Aurora that what we have up here and I think its possible to work on 6 M from northern
LA/SM/OH into KL7 on AU E. Aurora QSOs between SM/OH/LA and sometings down to SP/ES/GM is
common. On 10 M we have terrific openings during sunspotmaximum to KL7/W6/KH6 just before
and in beginning of Aurora. S9++ signals and even better up in SM2 land (Northern part of
SM, I am in SM3 middle part of SM). Those openings usally occure in late
December/beginning January and time is often around midnight local time ( 21 - 22z). Not
during daytime. We have heard VE8BY beacon during that type of propagation and I know
SM3EQY has work VE8HL one or two times (not sure abt the VE call). I think KL7 - North
SM/OH/LA on 6 M is very possible during AU and sunspot max in wintertime but dont expect
anything else up here until next year. SM3JGG work a UA0 station last sunspot max on that
kind of opening, thats all QSOs I know about. So, hope that You can find some of this info
usefull, and that some day we have a QSO on 6 m. We are not so may 6 M Ops in nothern SM
because of band restrictions (Have still ch2 TV TX around) and poor propagations compared
to EU hams but we sure listen a lot (and call) during Aurora with our antenna pointing to
north. Chech for our beacon SK3SIX on 50070 sometime, You maybe suprised ! 73 de Classe

then it was dead. 20 PAs, 19 SPs and 18 Gs made the bulk of this opening. A couple of OZs

And from GJ4ICD page. VK4JSR Rpt: 19/10/98 12:30z 49.640MHz RS 51 - Alaskan DARN Radar
frequency - very scattered signal, with strong carrier and a rapid, strong 'buzz' like
video. Beam heading from VK4 (QG62nm) was between 20 - 30 degrees. Could this have been AU
with a TEP extension? Very unusual propogation considering this is 22:30 AEST! JA beacons
and 49.750MHz TV between 12:15 - 13:08z. de Scott VK4JSR Comment from KL7SIX: After the
event I was able to piece together the events of 19/10 by visiting no less than five
clusters and sites. I am going on the record to state the obvious, with so many sites and
so much imformation disspipated over these sites, anyone who even begins to think they
have an edge or an angle on when and where the dx is going to be rported is sadly
mistaken. At least with paket radio you only had to watch one screen. Now the imformation
is spread out wide and far on the internet and takes so mch time to gather in, who has
time to work dx. no wonder no one is on the dx bnds they are all in fornt of PC

TV only The 49.640 was unusual. I know this is the DARN radar, but at 12:30z (10:30pm
AEST) I didn't expect to hear anything. The sound was very like a TV video with a strong
video type buzz, and about 3KHz wide. The signal was in for about 3 minutes (at least from
when I first heard it!) If this was the radar, I can only explain it as if it was
propogated by AU, then a TEP extension. Cheers Scott VK4JSR

luck next time. However in my experience next time never eventuates or is never the same,
that is why I am so aggressive and passionate about my 6M dx. Love me or hate me you gotta

to KL7SIX, etc. Darn! Knew I should have checked the radio before hitting the road this
morning and coming over to my College city ~200kms to the East of my home city. Went to
bed shortly after spotting ve8by/b and a possible ox3vhf/b and was up about 5 hours later.
Just about the time to check the KL7 path. Oh well! I am set up here at my portable QTH w/
a small 4el and 25w. Not much comparetively speaking, but I live in a strict neighbourhood
in a large apt. bldg as it is. My neighbours think I am nuts for having a "TV"
antenna when cable TV is so cheap. (actually we do have cable, hi!) The attic is full of
dipoles and I even have 2m interlaced on the same boom as 6m. I either load the boom or
use a CB whip on 10m too! Just looks like a weird TV antenna. Hmmmm, how easily I stray
off topic. Anyway, the thrust is-if you want to work KL7, you gotta and I mean GOTTA stay
up late. When I worked it a few years ago on AU-Es it was 1:30am local. I woke several
grouchie ops by calling them on the phone, but the 1 or 2 that DID get on, were smilin' as
they fell asleep during lunchtime the next day. MANY times I have heard ve8six/dp22 but
not a single op on the band. Have you guys eard tel of vy1ja yet? Bugged him to no end to
get on and he bought a new radio and put up a small quad and have only seen 1 or 2 dx

Reprinted from email via KL7NO same results in Fairbanks. Hi Steve, Sure was
frustrating last nite---after hearing KL7FZ and WL7PV working AL7OC (I was just lurking
around the edges looking for beacons and trying 2 meters, etc), the VE4 beacon started
coming in, along with VE8WD. VE6ARC dropped completely out, as did you guys down south. I
had VE4VHF at 5/9 on an relatively deaf Icom R7000 receiver and could get no answers to
CQ's whatsoever. Pierre and I sat on .125 ragchewing (trolling) until almost 0800 when
finally all the beacons dropped out, without ever hearing another station. Between 0945
and 1015Z, 6 opened again, VE6EMU, VE6ARC, VE8WD, and VE4VHF all rolling in without a
sound above 50.100. I ran the keyer on .125 almost continually without any answers. As an
interesting aside, I had a 10 meter qso with VE4KQ yesterday. He is the caretaker for the
VE4VHF beacon, and I told him about all the times I had heard it last summer without ever
having a qso with a VE4. (I did work 2 VE4's in the Winnipeg area on 8/30, and a U.S.
station mobile in northern Manitoba around Churchill in May). I mentioned to him that the
times were mostly in the 0500 to 0700Z time span. His reply was that there wasn't all that
many VE4's and they were probably all in bed at that time. Guess I can't fault that, I
wonder how many UA0's have had an opening over this way at, say 1200Z, and found us all in
bed. 73, Al KL7NO PA3BFM try over the pole using great circle route.

Warning re 28.885 Dont be fooled like we were last time. When 6M opens from VK to EU
28.885 is bootstrapped from below and is unworkable not beacuse anyone is not there but
because the crtical frequency exceeds 28 Mhz. Didnt we learn anything in 1989?

Re: 40.220 signals. I remember from last cycle, when talking to Misha, UL7GCC both on
10 and six, that I heard those (35>42 MHz) signals aswell. According to him it was from
AU0/UA9. Services like taxi 2-way and ambulance 2-way were identified by him after I
played it back on 28.885. How much is left of these services I don't know. I've checked
the band during the ES-season, and sometimes the repeaters opened. However I never heard
anyone talking.

Re:SIGNALS ON 40.220 heard by Max, DL4MDQ.- I've been listening to the recording (.wav)
carefully and with much interest. I also recieve signals like this during TEP seasons, and
would also be interested to find the country of origin. In Max's recording, I could quite
clearly hear two distinct "squelch tails" - A repeater perhaps? Pity VK3OT's
list has very little on region1 (Probably our fault anyway) On a different Subject-I
wonder if any of our experts can help me with this mystery. I have quite often heard a
sort of "chirpy", sweeping signal on the frequency spectrum between 25-30MHz.
The sound is difficult to describe. Sometimes it "sits" on one frequency for a
while and then sweeps up and down the spectrum and suddenly dissapears. I used to think
that it was some sort of manmade signal, an Ionosonde maybe. A friend of mine told me that
it was an oscillation in the Ionosphere. Yesterday morning, this signal was all over the
six metre band as well for a few hours, with no sign of propagation other than 10M being
really wide open. Can anyone shed some light on this for me or refer me to some literature
to go and read? vy 73 de

Regarding the annaouncement from Max DL4MDQ I took some time to monitor the named
frequencies. The mentioned FM signals can come from portable telephones. I have heard a
lot of these signals here. Most of the time it was used by Arabian people. Maybe it
originate from Turky or Marocco? Those phones work in a 20 kHz raster. 73's,

Things are really looking very promising here since yesterday when an IT9??? station
was heard on 50.110 SSB during the afternoon. Unfortunately no contact was made. 48.250
video was coming in very loud and was heard by both ZR1ADI and ZR1TRD. Propagation
(predictably) seems to be moving more South on the N-S path. We seem to be getting 48.250
video before and after ZS6 and V5. Gilbert, ZR1ADI seems to "hear" more than I
do :( at this time. I will be moving QTH soon and am hoping to get a QTH on top of a hill
with a clear take-off to the North. Then I will invest in a better antenna. I am toying
with a six-over-six skeleton slot and a 2X 4-250 PA when I get settled at the new QTH,
hopefully in time for a band opening.B.t.w. Andre, ZR1TRD reports that 48.250 video peaked

John, KP2A active on 6 again. "Jimmy [W6JKV], Your bar-b-q inspired me enough that
when I got back to St. Thomas I began assembling my six meter beam that was still in the
box waiting for the tower that was supposed to be here already but U.S. Tower slipped the
schedule another month! Any way got the beam up DXpedition fashion with a rope to rotate
it. As soon as it was up, I looked for some coax; found several pieces but had to use a
TEE for a quick splice. I wonder to where did my hundreds of barrels fly? I know the
debris from my nine towers was quickly cleared away after the hurricanes by the scroungers
with my lessing. I sorted through three rigs, 6 headset/boom mikes, and 3 hand mikes
before I found a working combination - they all had been through three hurricanes!
Although I threw out tons of junk after the storms, I still have a lot left! Finally at
about 7 p.m. local time got it all together and South America was booming through as usual
via transequatorial ducting and made three QSOs: LW5DX, LU3EMK, and LW3EBJ - I thought I
had worked everyone in South America in the last cycle but these calls were not in my
computer log which goes back to 1979! I guess there is a whole new generation I will have
to work through! Thanks again for a wonderful party, the inspiration, and now I hope to
work all on 6! 73 John KP2A"

regards to openings to W7 or VE7 would be most welcomed.I would then phone the other VHF

HH6PA report: Have been QRV from Port-au-Prince (FK38) for some days, but did not make
any QSO's. Went to Cap Haitien in the north of Haiti (FK39) during the weekend. Was QRV
from the beach there, but no signals heard. On Sunday 4 Oct, we went to the 'citadelle', a
huge fortress on top of a 1000 m high mountain overlooking Cap Haitien. Had the Yeasu
FT-690 with 3 W only on the telescopic antenna with me. When I arrived at the top, I
switched on the set and immediately heard some LU stations in a local chat on 50.110.
Signals were extremely strong. I called for about 15 minutes until I could work LU9AEA
(GF05) at 2200 UTC and LU2DEK (GF02) AT 2205 UTC with good signals both ways.
Unfortunately my batteries went dead after this, so I had to go QRT and go back to Cap
Haitien.... I am now back in Port-au-Prince, I will try again from here, but QRN is very
strong here. Next weekend, we will go to Jacmel (FK38), located on the south coast.
Perhaps this is a good spot for working more South American stations. 73 Allard HH6PA /

The average Italian hams behaviour and knowlegde of English language need improvement,
and this is a well known fact of life, no discovery. So to keep complaining about Italian
hams does not look terribly bright, just words in the wind.... On the other hand our
situation is not very different from that of other Latin countries, but Italian hams are A
LOT, and this makes the real difference. Finally, the stations who complain about their
inability to manage pile-ups do not realize that, often, this is also due to their odd
operating practices (e.g. they call by call-area or by country, they enter a dispute
rather than simply ignoring unpolite hams, etc.). In conclusion, I invite everyone to stop
discussions of this nature, regardless of the country. 73 I0JX

Italian crowd ... it was a strom while we were on from SV9 this summer. I just checked
the 50MHz logs and found 80% (!) of QSO's done with the boys from Italy. Few callsigns
more then 5 times in the log. I rember pretty well when Andre, SV9/DF9OX was calling
outside Italy and there was no way to break the pile up from I. This happende also on 144
when we had that very rare 2-hop Es on June 2th both to Italy and G/GM and the boys from G
were very hard to copy due to the terrible QRM frm I, even when we were calling "G
only pls". ... 73 Udo, DK5YA

TO OUR ITALIAN FRIENDS - I note on the cluster during the opening yesterday someone
asked why ZS operators were asking for calls from "OUTSIDE ITALY". The reason is
simple. Propagation to southern Italy is common, almost a daily thing. I have about 250
Italian QSL cards from the last cycle. However when the band is open further north there
are other countries that are rare in ZS6. I have only one card from HB9, none from HB0, Z3
or T9, all countries in the same area so when there are perhaps 50 or more Italian
stations calling I will take a standby to see if any of those countries are calling. We
have several years of good propagation ahead, so be patient. There will be plenty of
chance for all Italian operators to contact the ZS operators. 73.

Nice opening today from IO80. Started around 09:55 with E's TV from I on 48/55 MHZ.
Opened to IT9 at 10:22. ( ended at 12:09 with 9H ). Suddenly at 11:11 nice surprise with
QSO to FR5DN!! - in till 11:40. Around 11:35 started to hear ZS6 beacons on .044 /.050 -
then from 12:42 started to work ZS6 at good strength - opening ended around 15:05 but weak
signals from the beacons heard till 16:56!!! Es started again at 17:35 to 9A / I - ended
17:50. Class III TEP started at around 17:47with ZS6 beacons and I worked 7Q7RM, Z23JE,
ZS6AXT and V51KC!! - all on TEP - all sigs were weak and watery - typical class III - no
more than strength 4 - ended at 19:00 but 3C TV was in till 19:46

Very good opening in TEP today, in portable from JN34 i have worked many ZS stations
V51KG Z22JE, but there is again the "italian" problem over pile-up. I'm sorry
for all new italian operators that not know the correct condition of call, and for many
time calling over the stations that not are lissened. But i think that the problems of a
small quantity of operators cannot be the problem of ITALY. I hope that in future all
people of Italy and outside of my country, can be contact all Dx stations in the world
without heard " Not italian stations only outside Italy ". Best 73 and nice
"job" on Six.

level is high (without NB s9, s3 with NB) because of bad power-lines (maybe caused
by'George'??) At the last moment before leaving home he took a 100W PA with him so he is
QRV with 100W and HB9VC running a beacon on 50.123 and when in, calling CQ on .110 From

Playing out hunches is part of the art of working 6M dx. No one said it would be easy,
thats why so many ops drift away to easier pickings on lower bands. Looking at my posting
on October 1st, how could I possibly know that an event was occuring 750 miles from here,
a world away, that could have lead to first VK to KL7 QSOs in a decade or so. Thats the
point how could we know, what do we know. Play all the cards no matter how radical it
seems or how negative some people appear to be about your chances of success. I didnt get
DXCC from VK by being a wallflower. Or by trying to be popular and going with the flow.
This is RADICAL STUFF so who wants to be first EU to work KL7????? A dont say IT CANT BE
DONE there is no such word...

A report from Steve KL7FZ from NL7RR Dutch Harbour Unalaska Island 750 Miles s/w of
Wasilla reported the reception of W7/JA and possibly VK1 station on 50 Mhz using a
rudimentary installation. This occured around 0400z to 0433z on October 1st and at the
same time coincidentally David VK2BA reported over 28.885 a path to JA8 from VK east
coast. The beam heading for JA is 355 the heading for Dutch harbour is 010. Titillating
news no matter how credible or incredible. Coincidental with Davids 6M path was a 15,500
km path between KL7 and VK6. Stay sharp and reap the benefits cos six will do its thing
despite our efforts.

Prop report:::: BP51 Wasilla AK 99654::: Yesterdy was most promising so far this year
with 10 metres open as high as 29 Mhz: VK7IK/3 was in from QF22 at 2330z followed by
VK4APG QG62 and Nev VK2QF Mudgee 5x7. At 0200z VK2RSY 28.262 VK5WI 28.260 were in at 539
followed by VK6RWA 28.264 at 559. The JA5 beacon on 28.263 was in at 339 and a VK2 to JA8
6M path was announced by VK2BA. When this path dropped out so did the VK6 to KL7 path
(1500 kM). At 0400z VK6HK was workable on 28.885 up to 5x7 with rapid QSB and phase
distortion, classic indicators of decaying F2. I think the aurroal conditions which came
up later at 0700z may have wiped out today but will checkVK/ZL/O path, with the hope it
will soon extend to 50 Mhz. NL7OW was in on AU backscatter at 0700z and a visual fast
moving green aurora was noticed above my house at an angle of 45 degrees at 1000pm local
