To VK4APG. In ARA I mentioned the position of the GEOMagEq
in 10 degree increments on at least two occasions. It basically
is North of India, Centre at New Guinea and South at Tahiti and
then crosses to North again in South America. This is why we cant
work greater than 45 degrees crossing in VK. Re 26th october. I
had JA5/JA7 10M beacons fluttery and VK2/VK3 10M beacons on b/s
then at around 0425z these signals faded and JA3EGE reported
46.172 TV video and by 0500z I had 49.750 TV video. Common
factors? 10M closes and 49/50 Mhz opens as critical frequency is
bootstrapped up from below????

Hi, had a wonderfull day sunday the 19th. First 10 meters
with booming sig's from VK, YB and later from Africa. The whole
day some Es to SV, IT9 and later around 1400Z, Es to IS0. This
was although the time band opens to V51VHF. First weak but around
1500Z sometimes S9! V51KC came on and from that moment on, Jack
worked pile-up's. Some of the "old" F2 feelings came
back again....Stations worked: V51KC and TR8CA. TR8CA was the
third time this week. Cycle 23 realy start now i believe. 73's
and good DX.

Yesterdays activities started with a TROPO-QSO with Alain
ON4KST over 801 kms. In the afternoon SM7AED alerted me telling
that the V51 beacon was audible. And yes, the beacon was there
and so was V51KC (unfortunately I did not get trought the
European QRM Curtain) but a little bit later I worked TR8CA! THIS
WAS THE FIRST AFRICAN OPENING THIS YEAR! Let there be more!

10m was humming this morning (19th October). Had VK in at
59+ with a number of other SE Asia. Also lots of YB's. Thought it
would worthwhile leaving 885 running in the background while
decorating! Mid afternoon up pops SV1DH. Costas had also thought
the same, and had just started monitoring 885 again. This was my
1st 28885 QSO sinc 1993! ...lets hope more folk start to tune up
there as the band opens. A few snippets from Costas inc. FR bcn
now QRT, and no-one QRV and Z21SIX is in the process of being
moved (and hopefully back on air) after the SK of Z23JO. Also
caught up with Tony A45ZN lower down the band, SLOW progress with
the tx permits, possibly a few months off yet. He is not on air,
as reported in various publications. 73 Neil G0JHC

Hi All, Nice to see africa into this far north (io73,
EU124) at the begining of this last week! Worked TR8CA 55/59
Amazed at the signal peaking 59 here!! and that was just with the
6 ele yagi up at 10m. I am glad I will be seeing the next cycle
from IO73 and no up in IO77 :-) Two questions, email me please
unless you think the replies may be of general interest: 1/ I
have a new 8 ele Create yagi, and the manual has one of the
directors longer than the previous director. I have asked someone
before with the same antenna and they confirmed its not a
misprint. Can someone else confirm that on Create 8 ele y one of
the directors is longer than the preceding one, and can someone
explain to me how this works? 2/ I am getting ready to upgrade my
IC575A for a 100w hf/6m radio. I would like to receive users
opinions on FT920/IC756. I have read the reviews and for HF the
756 seems superior, but since I have an 850sat for HF contesting
my main priority is 6m. Which is the best for 6m in your opinion?

I see lots of spots for EA stations on the cluster but I
was under the impression that they had lost 6m for the time
being, an idea which was reinforced when I had to work EA1EH
crossband to 28885. Are these stations operating outside the
terms of their permits or have they had 6m reinstated?. 73 David

Be assured there is no other TV transmission in region 3 on
46.172. It was offset from the traditional 46.240/250/260 because
WIN TV went to stereo sound and as such they had to move the
video carrier down to the lowest allowable within the vestigal
filter system to accomodate the stereo sub carrier which is on
51.915 Mhz. So if you hear a single QSB carrier on 46.171
something I will get you the exact offset, then it is probably
WIN TV Toowomba Queensland transmitting at approx 170,000 watts
erp from a 600 foot tower on Mt Mowbullan. If you hear 46.24000
it is probably Wagga Wagga Mt Ulandra transmitting into 4 bays of
24 dipoles in a stack on a 600 foot tower and erp of 100,000
watts. It is S6 at 800 kM at my QTH so it self ionises..... Dont
forget the 45 Mhz ZL TV and the path that went the other way from
ZL to ZB2 last cycle at 2300z. Look at the data base on this
system to read off the locations or check out the ZL Map from
VK3ALM Adam.... Guys if you dont mind me saying so, you need to
commence an investigative strategy NOW and start checking out all
the arly warning signals from 35 Mhz up. ZL3TIC reported 35 Mhz
US pagers last week across the pacific into ZL3 and with less ZL
50 Mhz activity due to permit constraints, there will be fewer
reports, so it is essential that you do not disregard any reports
as beeing inconsequential, if you do, it is at your own peril! 6M

Did anyone catch the snippet from GJ4ICD? Any comments? Any
collaboration? This is important news as we enter into October.
Dont forget G5KW into S/E VK 11th October 1989. Dont get caught
with you pants down, we are entering into the arly stages of
Cycle 23 and it will rocket up and cathc everyone unawares unless
we stay sharp. I missed two way into JA last week because i could
not raise anyone on 10M and it took 6 minutes to start the PC,
log on, password, and go to the cluster to pass on the info. The
JA2IGY beacon was only in from 0730 to 0745 at the best so i lost
50% of my transmission time fooling around on this medium. Dont
complain if you miss out, we are not well prepared as we need to
be. We need phone and fax numbers and an idea of wh0o is likely
to respond. If the 46 TV had built up to S9 in Jersey, how long
would it have taken Geoff to alert people, given that at this
time of the cycle you may have 60 seconds worth of opening. In
the whole of 1990 I had 120 seconds of opening to OH2BC, and that
was for the whole year. Dont blow it by being unprepared or
waiting to be assured by friends that cycle 23 has started. It
has. From GJ4ICD.... At 0800z 46.172 signals were detected but
very weak, I'm not sure if this was TV from VK but was in the
memories of the radio as used in the last cycle...... de GJ4ICD.
