Chris & Nick. You guys (and the UKSMG) should
be very proud of an excellent job, that was very VERY
well done! I look forward to someday working SU1ER on 6m,
and it will be mostly thanks to your efforts if I ever
do. Congratulations guys! You have done a great service.
-MIKE Mike-ve9aa <ve9aa@brunnet.net> - Monday, April 28, 1997 at 00:49:36 (BST) The 6m unit of the VE9MS/B conglomeration has been
replaced by a recycled unit from the UK, made available
to this operator by my friend Geoff / GJ4ICD (Thanks
Geoff!!) Its new frequency is (at present) is 50.06525
FSK and runs a big 1 watt to a stack of 2 full wave,
horizontal loops at about 25/30' It is located in FN65 in
Fredericton, NB. The older unit, a Johnson 6n2
(50.087Mhz) is going to be my backup unit, as it's always
breaking down, overheating, and sucking the life out of
its' 5894 tubes. I may look for another home for it, that
is more accessible than the present ve9ms/b home. The
change in Frequency is mostly due to trying to clear out
our "cw portion" above the beacon sub-band, but
below the "ssb portion" Notice my quotations.
Also, that's what xtal was in the unit upon its' arrival
here from across the Atlantic. The ve9ms/b signal has
dropped from 's8' to about 's 1.5', so it's no-where near
the ERP of the robust older unit. I would like to step it
up a bit, perhaps to 25w or 50w (or even 100w), but lack
the funds to buy a new brick. If anyone has an old FM 6m
brick they could donate to the cause, It would be most
appreciated. I know there are very few 6m beacons in this
neck of the woods, and I endeavour to do my part by
seeing that "NB", and "FN65" are kept
on the map. Other than ve1smu/b and vo1za/b, I think that
about does it for Canada anywhere east of Ontario!!!
Haven't heard ve8by/b or ve2two/b in 7-8 months so I fear
they are both off the air, or I haven't been in the right
place at the right time, hi hi! VE1PZ/b has a small
chance of being resurrected this summer, but there are
still some complications to be worked out. Doug's beacon
always does well into USA & EU partly due to its HAAT
& height ASL, and his funny
egg-beater-"TYPE" of antenna he's made for the
unit. ve9ms/b is still QRV on 28.299.5 from same qth. 5
watts/ single loop. 2m one is (still) QRT until I find
another radio. -MIKE/ve9aa/ve9ms/b P.S. speaking of
beacons, don't forget to look for "cy9aa/b" on
50.101MHz from June 26th-July 3rd. We'll have a
QSK/breakable one running for our entire operation. OK! We're off to Cairo now. Wish us luck. I will
post info as soon as I can on my return Sunday lunchtime.
We're taking a still and video camera so I will be
posting pictures and video in due course. 73 Chris re the setting up of a VK forum. We in the south do
not experience long haul E's like that of the Atlantic.
So the next five months of reports will be of lttile
consequence to long haul dx working from here. We need a
fast and efficient means of alerting to Pacific DX. At
the moment you have to visit at least three sites to get
the overall picture of what is going on out here. I
thought that a single Oceania page somewhere would be
fine. How about providing one here Chris? I feel I have
done more than my own fair share of supporting UKSMG with
data bases and frequency lists and TV lists I dont see
any other VK's other than VK5LP/!ZFG/3ALM supporting 6M
activities at other than a superficial level. And yet
they all want part of the dx action. So we need a place
to post our observations free from the clutter of
thousands of E layer transAtlantic results. With all due
respect. Larry, TZ6W, announces: "On April 2, 1997,
TZ6HY and TZ6W met with Mr. Toure, the Secretary-General
of Sotelma (Society of Telecommunications of Mali) in
Bamako. The meeting should be beneficial to amateur radio
in Mali. Mr. Toure will assist with the licensing process
for amateurs, promoting amateur radio and setting up
training sessions for Malians interested in amateur
radio, and assistance to the amateur community in gaining
access to resources and additional frequencies (i.e. six
meters). The Club des Radio Amateurs du Mali (CRAM) has
been formed by interested parties. Ex-patriot hams and
non-governmental organizations will work with CRAM to
establish club stations for Malian amateurs. Hamadoun
Yattara, TZ6HY, will serve as a liaison between the
amateur community and Sotelma." From QRZ-DX 14/97
tks: Arne SM7AED The 10M band is now very active trans-Pacific with
daily Asian CB up to at least 35 Mhz. B/S on beacons
during 0200z time slot and some E's to ZL on 50 Mhz two
days ago. Between now and first week in May is possibly
last opportunity for TEP until next October from VK. Is
anyone on 28.885 for liason? The morning F2 path to Asia has shown up on 10M at
least. From 2200z to 2400z the darwin beacon was in at up
to 559 on 28.268. There were also Asian CB radio signals
up as high as 35 Mhz, within the range of most TS680
rigs. There was also E layer observed on 28.262 short
skip from Sydney. Albeit modest reports the ionosphere is
at least active as we go into a traditional doldrum.
Another noticeable abscence are the high equinoxial winds
of 38 south which break antenna around this time of the
year. There are subtle changes that the sun is getting
active and the atmosphere is expanding, maybe only 10
points up but it only takes a little change to get
stratling results and I predict the best dx will be
worked in the first two years of the cycle like last
time. If you get preoccupied you will read about it here
and surely miss out of the good DX so stay sharp. I have
heard Tim V73AT active every day on 28.885 but no other
Pacific stations. Maybe theye are waiting for the go
ahead. You dont need permission to operate on 28.885 and
the reports from K6FV daily of the VK/ZL 10M beacons show
that from 0200z to after 0400z with a half way decent
station you could talk to the West coast W6's. See ya Pacific stirs. Tim V73AT had 48 TV into Kwajelien
17/04/97 around 0800z and 0830z. Asian CBers were into
VK3 around the same time as high as 35 Mhz. K6FV had the
VK3SIX 28.253 beacon in from 0230z until 0400z. All signs
of life. This October could see first VK to KH6 for Cycle
23. Wanted to contact 6M ops in
Anchoarge/Wasilla/fairbanks. Please email me today
thanks. Sorry about the DXCluster page not working. There
was a bug in the CGI that I've just cleared up. It should
be working now! 73 Chris Update to the Egypt Situation The UKSMG has bought
a Microwave Modules 100 watt solid-state amplifier for
use in Egypt. It has also bought a DRAE 24 amp @ 12 volt
psu to power it. This will be presented to Ezzat, SU1ER,
the President of the Radio Amateurs Assembly (of the
Radio Officers Club) ERAA. After use it will be passed
onto the club station SU0ERA. It is hoped that if we are
successful in getting general release of 6m in Egypt then
any visiting amateur will be able to use the club
facilities to activate Egypt on 6m. Chris, G3WOS, and
Nick, G3KOX, are going out to Cairo for two days on the
25th and 26th April and will be hand delivering the
equipment. During this trip Ezaat, Chris, and Nick will
be visiting the local regulatory body, the Arab. Rep. of
Egypt National Telecommunications Organisation (ARENTO)
to discuss general licensing issues. According to Ezzat,
antenna was put on top of the tower two days ago and fed
with 52 mtrs of RG-214 coax-cable to his shack and is
waiting for tests. It has been initially placed in a
horizontal position. So, everything is looking good so
far. Chris, G3WOS Chairman, UKSMG VK4APG visits EU on vacation this June/July. Any 6m
orientated Amateur Conventions/ Meetings to be held that
time? Cu on Six UK/P. Regards, Peter VK4APG
pjgarden@gil.com.au. Wanted infor about operating at 60 degrees North on
50 Mhz. I have an opportunity to accompany my wife to
Wasilla Alaska from Jan for one year and wonder if anyone
in Europe would like to try for over the pole into KL7???
If it pans out Ill pick up a new M2 on the way through LA
in January but might have to wait until it lightens up to
get the gear in place. Anyone from KL7?? Please QSP via
Email. Whats the prognosis and what other stations are at
that high latitude?? If I dont go there Ive got to go
down to VK0, bosses orders. Im not allowed to stay at
home playing radio. Grid in KL7 is BP51, calculate the
path and distance from EU. Its 12,600 from VK and I have
worked Wassilla several times before on 50 Mhz. I just got a chance to put my 5-Ele Yagi on the
roof of the house last night,I have yet to do some tests
in case of break thru on the Cable television system but
hopefully there will be no problems, I am listening most
nights on 6Meters from IO52RQ so hope to get into the
swing of things again!! Regards Robbie..EI8ESB OH0LIZ pedition 31.5-4.6.1997. If you want to make

- URGENT - The UK Six Metre Group is involved in helping
get a number of new countries on 6m for the first time. A
big component of this seems to include the supply of
documentary 'evidence' to local radio regulators that
50MHz is widely allocated throughout Region 1. I would
therefore like to make an URGENT request that any of you
in Region 1 who are in possession of documents such as
your own 50MHz licences or permits or documents from your
own licencing agency please send me any combination of
the following DURING THE NEXT FEW DAYS. (1) Ideally, FAX
me a copy and post the original to the address below: (2)
FAX me a copy and post a photocopy. (3) Post me a copy. I
am happy to accept SCANNED A4 copies and send them to me
as an e-mail attachment. ALSO, please e-mail with an
overview of the conditions in YOUR country. We have a
database but it is a little out of date. I would like to
get together documentation from all the major countries
in Region 1 to help with getting more countries on 6m.

UK Hi All, Still recovering from WPX contest this last
weekend, but the good news is that I pulled the Gem Quad
down yesterday and put my 6m and 10m monbanders back up.
Good es yesterday on 10m so am looking forward to working
6m again. Sched request welcome. Palle, will be looking
for you in next monthly contest and in RSGB fixed contest
on 20/04/97. Announcement soon regarding my IOTA trip to
Rathlin Island in GI in June, when I hope to activate
IO65 on 6m. 73 TF/PA3DWD this evening i spoke with bert about his
trip to TF this year here are the details. date: 26/6
till 16/7, rig: icom 706, power 100 watts, ant. 1/4 wave
HF and Tonna 5 elm. six meter. The licence is already ok,
main freq. for operation will be 50.123. Bert will take
no skeds, because they do not now when they will be
where. Bert and Els are going with there one car, a Grand
Cherokee, and will durring there stay cross the island,
so several locators will be activeted. 73's JOHN. V51VHF V51VHF V51VHF !!!!!!!!! Call on 50.200 USB
guys! C'mon. This info has been posted numerous times on
packet, here, gj4icd pages, and at least 2 internet
reflectors. I think it should be evident by now that no
one is listening in Namibia on 50.110 or wherever, but
thay have a 2m to 6m link that receives on 50.200, and
retransmits on 145.65 (or 145.55?) that alot of the guys
there monitor, and do their local ragchewing on. This
would include guys that do not even have 6m gear. Lets
hope they still have the 6m part up and running and that
it's not covered in too many cobwebs from lack of useage,
hi hi! GL, and I hope the next "I heard the v51vhf
