2006 SUMMER CONTEST

Finally a UKSMG Contest with good propagation! After a bad run of poor propagation in previous years, this was a good one, and the good propagation is reflected in the scores. A number of logs were recieved with over 100 QSO's and therefore quite a lot checking to do.

The UKSMG club station GD5KW, was operated for the first time this year by Peter, G4MJS. Peter travelled up to the Isle of Man just to put GD5KW on the air for the contest. Although GD5KW achieved the top position, as an official UKSMG station it is not eligible for entry into the contest and has therefore submitted a check log.

During the last few years the number of entries in the SWL section has been very low or non existant!. David Whitaker, BRS25429 was again the only entry, but this time only sent a check log. I wonder why none of the other UKSMG SWL members are sending a log? Please remember, this is NOT a UK only section. The contest was once again dominated by the multi-operator section. The new QRP section proved to be a great success with 7 entries and some real big scores. Last but not least the outside of Europe section with few entries. I hope to see more enter in this section next year with the growing number of UKSMG members outside Europe, especially in the USA.

Congratulations to all section winners. Hopefully propagation will be even better next edition on the first weekend of June 2007

Contest Reports

Trev, G3ZYY (Saturday 3rd)

Time to set off for the contest site.  The sun is shining, the sky completely blue, the temperature not even remotely what you would expect in the UK  and the band is full of stations!  Four hours to start time, surely this year .......

gl everyone, see you in the contest G3ZYY@G0VSM

Tamas, HA5PT (Saturday 3rd)

I can hardly believe that HA is on 6M. Thank you for all the contacts I could make this afternoon. Now I had to stop contesting because of the intense thunderstorm so I have time to analyze my 130 qso from all over Europe. I had lots of fun thank you for everyone.

See you tomorrow in the contest, 73.

Dennis, PA7FM (Saturday 3rd)

Well it looks like we had a pretty good start with this years UKSMG contest. We had hours of Es...and that's what it's all about. Just missing the very south of Eu in the propagation so far...no 9H, EH7,EH8 ..or at least not in here. The band is not dead yet here in JO21...but going down slowly....hoping fo a good follow up tomorrow morning. good hunting.

Peter, G4MJS/GD5KW (Saturday 3rd)

Great day today at GD5KW - thanks for all the QSOs, hope for more great propagation tomorrow. 73

Chris HG5XA / HA5X (Saturday 3rd)

Well, for me it went better before the contest, but propagation was GREAT. From the morning I worked basically all of Europe! As for the contest, HA50MHZ is a difficult callsign, and few people understand it :) Besides, my 10W and GP is not ripping through the QRM, so have to fight for each QSO. . Do not yet know if I have time for the contest tomorrow, but will try to be around. I hope to meet all of you who are not yet in the HA50MHZ log yet. 73
