Noticed on XW0X's web page (http://qth.com/dxshack/QRV-QSL-News/21-OCT-01.htm) that you should only send IRC's with your QSL card. 1 IRC gets you return in a month. 2 IRC's get you next day service. DO NOT send US Dollars as it is illegal in Laos! All QSL's to P.O.Box 2659 Vientiane Laos

Much the same to report from here.....started the day with VU2RM. then had to work had to crack XW0X (he later was 59+ fr 30 mins!), and then two VK4 stations before a steady stream of 12 JA's - worked them here & there, never really settled down to a run). Heard VK8MS, but too weak to work. The VK6RSX beacon was in for a couple of hours before midday. Lunchtime - worked 15 NA, W1,2,3 & VE1,2,3 before concentrating on the Caribbean. TG9NX was weak on cw, worked him but wasn't 100% sure he got my call, so worked him a few mins later on ssb, where he and Ray YS1RR peaked at 30 over 9 on my mingy IC746. Also worked TI7WAM on cw, and heard but didn't call VU2ZAP, VK6JQ, E30, 9G, ZF1DC, TG9AJR, P43JB & HP2CWB but no sign of HK3, XE or OA. For me, today was not quite as good as yesterday, but I'm not complaining!

Info from E30NA: Wednesday, Oct. 31th will be the last day of operation. The team will put down all antennas & leave their qth. It will take more time as expected to get the transportation of all material fixed. Tuesday, October, 30th at 15UTC the crew had 18.000 qsos in the log with appr. 550 qsos on 6m including 100 qsos with NA. There will be NO update of the online log until they returned home. PSE remember: The major-activity of E30NA was to built up HF-equipment and to participate in the CQWW-Contest last weekend... 73's

Wow! Every day since October 24 it's been getting better and better. I thought hearing VU2ZAP for over 5 1/2 hours was good enough. Today? Called by a dozen JA's and VK4FNQ (he said I was his first G this cycle), VK4ADC and VK4BLK. Amazing - I only worked 1 JA in the last cycle! Glad to also work UK9AA, VU2RM, XW0X. Tomorrow? As we are all well aware ther has been rather alot of propagation recently! - from this I know that there are several new countries worked which some of you are lucky enough to be Firsts. Please send any claims to my Email address - thanks. For myself have been pleasantly surprised with 2 more Regions, 6 DXCC, 5 Major grids and at least 16 new grids - excellent given my already large number worked - and I still have left something for another day!!. Best was to get Chris VP8 (you have my great thanks and sympathy), VU2RM, and most interesting OY9JD via F layer!! The total of DXCC that has come to my QTH this year(wrkd / hrd) is 136 - never before in last cycle did this occur!! Gud DX to all

Hello 6ers I am glad having worked XW0X today after I found out that I had to go home from qrl shortly because I had forgotten something very important (forgot what it was...) And to add this exotic dxcc to my humble 176 now. This was also possible because of the excellent signal and operating skills of XW0X. 73 Jaap.

Couldn't believe my ears when I heard GW4VEG! Tuned across him by accident... and he was gone within minutes. Nice to see that A-index back down again. And, tomorrow???

After the recent opening to Japan I took some time to cross-check the grid locators of about 60 JA stations I worked with buck master. To my surprise, about 50% differ from the ones I have logged. To make things worse, MY locator was also wrong! During pileups some errors are excusable, but PM74 sounds a lot differently from QN23 and I am not deaf (yet). Any ideas?

Have to agree with Tony, maybe even go further, better than any day last cycle? I can remember good openings last cycle but none with such a variety of DX outside Europe. Long may it continue. Only thing that marred it was the number of stations breaking the pile-up only to be told "you're in the log" i.e. repeat QSOs BUT I'm not blaming them, I definately worked 1 new DXCC country today but may have worked 4, in each case the station came back with a report or my callsign but never both. Can I make a plea to the DX stations to please state both callsigns once during a QSO, it would have saved a lot of repeats today and would clear up any uncertainty. Cheers all, enjoy it while it lasts!

This has to be the best day for 6m dx in cycle 23 so far from here. Awsome is how I'd describe today's openings!. I'm starting to lose count of the new countries worked. New for today were VU (2 of them), J2, E30, TU, HP, TI and the pick of the pack for me, VK6JQ. I also worked JA, UK9, UN, 4X, OD, 5B, 9M2, D44, KP4, & ZF. Between 10:24 and 10:50 I had run of 20 Japanese stations. The JA's were best on qtf 30-50 degrees here, so not the usual 110deg scatter path. The VK6RSX beacon was heard from mid-morning until mid-afternoon (579 best). Both the Indian hams were peaking 59+20db here after lunch, and were as loud as any local. It was a pleasure to hear GI's & GM's up North cracking the pileups to VU. After working East and West African calls around lunchtime, I swung the beam to Caribbean, and worked some new countries before finding an interesting scatter point at 255deg which allowed me to work W1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 9 & 0 for about 40 mins. Signals from NA then came from a direct path of qtf 280 from about 14:00z, and I ran W's for some time picking up loads of new qra's. It was at that time I think that OA4/N6XQ heard me, but NA signals were 59++, and I was working 3 qso's/min, so no breaks, very sorry Jack, but I will qrx more often next time!. A toal of 110 NA stations were worked in the afternoon, but the band died before it had a chance to open to W6/7. Right at the end of the opening, ZF1DC called me, and could be heard cq'ing on .110 for EU later. There was 8.5 hrs of F2 here, no E's - I heard that there had been some in EU today?. To round up, the VK6JQ qso was tops, I had heard VK five times before and not had a shot to work the country - I think everyone was working Central America today when I made my first VK qso in cycle 23. 73 de T O N Y .. Extremely annoying when your still waiting to Work your first VK, to hear a VK6 having long winded CW QSOs, taking quite a few minutes to complete each QSO, Yes it is his perogative to do this, but annoying all the same when peaking 569 quite a few times, Oh Well good morning otherwise, VU2, 9M2, D44, PY0, UN5, the VK6RSX Beacon in for ages, so still waiting for my First VK :-)

Re VK6RSX:- I can confirm that G0KOM's information is correct. VK6RSX is located at Dampier about 1100Km north of Perth. It was relocated there from Exmouth after site problems. Unfortunately there is no 6mx activity in the area withion 1000Km at present. The nearest station is VK6JQ to the north in Broome. VK6RSX is operated by the West Australian VHF GRoup (Inc) with the local help of Michael Tutt VK6BHY in adjacent Karratha, but Michael is only on HF at present. Some people have also enquired about Steve VK6PA who was so active in Cycle 23 from Karratha. Sadly Steve is no longer in the area and not active on AR at all. If there are any queries about VK6 Beacons I will be pleased to try and handle same as a member of the WA VHF Group Beacon Committee and having helped set up the VK6 6Mx beacons.

Adrian, there is no guarantee that the current VK call book is correct either. But the real message is that WA is a very big place and that the beacons you most often hear are a long way from centres of population. But if you ever hear VK2RSY, I guarantee I will be there!

My VK6RSX info came from this year's VK call book. Exmouth is about 300 km south west of Dampier, which is a major iron ore export terminal and port. Exmouth is quite near Learmonth, the source of the VK geomagnetic data you see on the IPS website. As far as I now, the closest six metre operator is VK6JQ at Broome, "only" 500 km north west of Dampier. Some of the more regular VK6s might have more info.

Congratulations to all those who worked new countries . Its almost 12 months to the day since we had conditions like these in UK and Northern Europe and makes up for the hours , weeks and years spent listening to white noise . The band never ceases to amaze me that conditions can be so localised . I've sat listening to local and semi-local stations working JAs,9M,DU,YB,9Y,TG etc etc and here - nothing and yet some were 5/9 minutes later. Some of the backscatter signals were amazing . Finally can anyone tell me where VK6RSX on 50.304 is located and what it runs ? I've heard it 3 days running now up to 579 at times . 73 all and enjoy the condx while it lasts. Peter G3IBI

Great day on 6m today, and although the band was not open from here to some of the rarer caribbean and Central American countries, I did cpi HK3AVR for abt 15 mins working a NA pileup. No JA's, no 9M6, the TU was too weak, and I hrd lots of snippets from some very rare DX, but not strong enough to work. Congratulations to all those who got new ones, and a pat on the back to W7XU & friends on an excellent signal from 9G. It makes me wonder how many other West African stations we could work given that they have been a HUGE signal since setting up......to Chris in VP8, some of us do turn the aerial that way and call from time to time, but nothing heard yet my friend.....73 all & good DX

I never thought monday mornings could be this nice. Forgot some papers this morning so I had to turn the car, a sudden impulse made me switch on the rig and I got 2 new ones: 9M6US and UK9AA. There was also lot's of JA's but had to return to QRL. On another note with the recent openings from XP1AB, I think it is impressive that the Kangerlussuaq site north of the polar circle continues to provide 6 mtr. propagation. If there is a hot cold spot on 6 it is definetely in GP47.

Travelling from QG62 to QH30 is 1000 miles or 2200 kM, right up into the TEP zone, and as we have always said it is like going to another planet. Maybe we should all move north to Townsville, or Darwin, that would be a hoot. We are not all rushing to book our air fares.

...forgot to mention, a few hours later around 1215 we had Spain and Croatia back in for 15-20 minutes or so. Also 60 seconds worth of France too which wasn't quite long enough to work for a new one - after another local:( Suspect a TEP link-up as the 49.750 came back up again and when EH & 9A dissapeared so did the R1/C1. At the time E2 out of EU was extremely weak, but there. Look for this later path as well.

Wow! Sunday evening... what a night! 98 EU's worked in 26 countries (20 new ones for this little black duck!) Hard work pulling out callsigns in the pileup. I was generally calling "QRZ outside Italy" for the simple reason that I have already worked many "I" stations and would like to try and work as many new countries as possible during my short stay in QH30, so no offence to my Italian friends. Traveling 8 degrees further North has made an incredible difference. Whilst setting up my 6M7JHV I was hearing EU whilst monitoring on the FT-100 installed in the car fed with the 1/4 wave whip. VK4BKM/P in Maryborough worked some scraps of EU whilst VK4JSR reported no EU back in QG62 Brisbane:( The 6M7JHV is probably a little big to be setting up each day once I have reached my nice quiet hilltop location but the results are worth it! If History repeats this evening should also be good, as last year there were 3 days in a row of big openings between VK4 and EU, the only difference being we are running 2 days behind last year.

ZF1DC David: Suggest moving away from the A index. It is a "lazy" index, slow to rise and fall and useful only for general trends (direct correlation to a rolling K index). Kp (Planetary K) is a MUCH better GLOBAL indicator of geomagnetic conditions as the index is taken from numerous reporting stations and not just one. It updates every THREE hours and there are 27 values between 0-9. See my website for correlations on high latitude 50 MHz F-Layer paths. Also look for the link for COSTELLO predictions/plots= very useful. For you, at your advantaged geomagnetic latitude, these disturbed cndx for some of us mean ENHANCED conditions (E-W & N-S) for you! It must be nice!! GL & DX...

Nicolas. 25W is much better than 5w, however, I, too, like the last poster mentioned, started with a mere 1w and a small 3ele beam@ 20'. I could hear a lot of the DX the bigger stations were working, but couldn't make any QSO's during the weaker openings. I noticed the most improvement when I went to a 5el up @ 40'.....Better you try to get a 5el yagi, and get it up a bit higher than your present antenna. Invest in TOP-NOTCH coax too. Those two things will make the two biggest changes to your station.(antenna & coax) 73 de Ve9 Antenna Antenna

ON1NS, Nicolas. Looks like a small station, but even that can work well. I started 6 years ago with 1 Watt, but build every year a larger station. Better get a BIG antenna if you want to keep the low power. Antenna is the best amplifier !! Now have 180 watts and 8 el. Yagi. Good luck Nicolas....when there's Sporadic E, you work a lot with your small setup. 73's

Another 7 hours of video from the East today, plus EK6AD in for an hour or so this morning giving me DXCC#100...yippee (just gotta get the cards now..) 50W to a 5 ele , so it can be done by the 'modest' station (but it took me 14 years). As someone else pointed out, condx at the moment on a par with Cyle 22...now where are those S9+60dB DU/VK stations?

If your ISP is 'knowledgable' they use caching based on Inktomi. ISP caching systems do not work at the page level but at the object level. Meta & JavaScript is considered static and only the dynamic part of the page is being refreshed leaving the old refresh code operational. I suspect this is the problem. Mine is not refreshing here. Re refresh: ALL the refresh has been taken out - including the meta statement. JUST CHECKED IT FOR THE UMPTEENTH TIME. If your page is still refreshing it's a caching problem - maybe with the ISP. No propagation here in the Falklands for the last three days sins the NE opening - very disappointed I have to say! Chris

What´s needed to work DX? :-) Hmm.... 1)time 2)luck 3)no neighbours 4)no cable TV QRM 5) good ears....nah, but seriously - 5 W and 2el? You need sporadic E to assist you. To work long-haul F2-DX, you need (in my experience) 25W & 5el minimum, plus CW and all of the above (1-5). With 100W / 5 el you are relatively competetive, with 500W/9 el you are a "big gun", and dont need #5 above :-). Go for a 25W/5 el setup for a low-budget, workable solution - many of us worked the first 100DXCC that way. Good luck!

What a weekend. Three new ones and mixed feelings on the Sunday. Hearing 9G5AN with very strong sig's but working Italians and S5 and just a few more north...Also very frustrating hearing an OZ working him three times in one day! And an ON station very misbehaving again! Pity those idiots spoiling fun for so many others. But all by all I was very lucky, I didn't miss the new ones available this weekend. V73AT not counted..hi. Hope we will have big sig's fom him later on the week. This last two days were just as good like the good ones in cycle 22. The big difference is much more activity in Europe. So one reason more to behave. 73's

Saterday was again a very nice DX-day into North PA. It start with a lot of video from east, then suddenly A45XR was there again, as friday we say first UN, UK9 and more but they where heard after A45. At ones the first JA's where heard/worked into JO33, i didn't, but i heard some JA6's aswell on cw/ssb!! Also 9M2, DU and YB where into JO33. Around noon V73 was heard weakly, but couldn't worked! Then the band closed, we thought, beam was turned towards VE/W and suddenly at 12.45 utc!!!!!! there where 5 or 6 VR2's, unbeliveble never heard the VR2's so late in our qth. What kind a propegation must this be. Now sundaymorning the band is dead only 9G5AN was in but only 55 so not to work for us because in South PA he was 59. K is 5 today so no east propegation...sad but true. 73's 9DX

Finally! I am home to enjoy some ACTUAL 6m propagation. This "working for a living" sure gets in the way of my 6m Dxing. I was told today wasn't as good as other days this week, but I still had fun. Only made a few Q's as lots and lots of guys west of me needing the countries I was hearing. Came close to working OH and 5B but no joy. Also heard snippets of LY2BAW, but again no QSO. Best signals go to (first) G3IMV 5NN+(outta nowhere) and SM7BAE 559-579(what does he run?) Most signals very weak, fluttery and very QSB. Scandanavian video pounding in for hours, even before sunrise. I pray for 9G,OH,5B,JX,LY (and many more)will come tmw. This is REAL fun!! :-)...BTW, was saddened to see some clown on the packcluster posting large numbers of fake spots in the midst of REAL DX. AX: It's called geographic propagation selectivity. It's also called "six meter propagation maturity". Anyone who thinks they are the center of the propagation universe should wait a miniute- just like the weather here in New England. It WILL shift, you will have your day in glory, it takes patience. If you hold calling frequencies "hostage" - you will only screw up your neighbors! What a great band 6M is (at the limit of MUF)- ;-) Good DX...

So I jumped out of bed and worked a couple of LZ's and UT5JCW for 2 new countries. The band seems to open to a different part of Eu every morning between 1330-1400Z and stay open a max of 15 mins so have to make em count. Congrats to all who worked the new stuff today but how frustrating was it from G, 5 hours of S9++ video from Asia and loads of DL/ON/HB9/I backscatter but not one DX station outside Europe. Yesterday saw the best DX opening of the cycle for those of us in the Pacific Northwest of the U.S. The band opened a little after 1500 local to Asia, and stayed open until after 1830 local (0130 10/27 GMT). Huge numbers of very loud signals from Japan, many 59+20 dB, locals report hundreds of contacts made in the opening. I worked DU and HL for new ones, after many openings in that direction. Yesterday morning saw the loudest European videos ever heard here, 59+ but scatter path over South America. I posted some mp3 files of what the JA pileups sound like on this end on my server, www.metaverse2.com, have a listen to what a really good opening to Japan sounds like on the receiving end! 73 Bill, N0XX/7

Did I miss a new concept on how to work dx? I have spent the last three hours listening to a number of mainland EU 6m ops appearing on frequencies that minutes before had a juicy piece of dx spotted on the cluster and immediately start to call cq dx. Once or twice I could be persuaded was an unfortunate coincidence but fourteen times (!!) and that was one station in particular - well make your own minds up. Interestingly, some of the stations that I am alluding to, have over the years used these pages to vociferously berate others for their poor operating practice. I will set up in Nazca tomorrow. Should be a great location as the energy from the UFO landing strips will enhance the signal. 73 Jack

26 October was a great day for me. The first time I ever heard Japan via direct path (40 deg), and some of them were S9+ into JN58. From 0733 to 0743 I worked 24 JAs by a single CW CQ on 50138. The most northern one was in QN23. It was a thrill and a compensation for not hearing UK9AA and YB5QZ. 73

G,GW,GM,ON,EH7/9 and 9H also worked today. Best signal heard was G0RUZ on cw at S9 +20 for abt 15 minutes (Hope you don't mind I didn't call- assumed you were getting deeper into the US). Oct.26 was a miracle day which occur once in solar cycle. We had KL7 and W around 0z. It was a normal seasonal opening. On 03z we had good opening toward Khazah, UN5PR and UN9P are 59 or 599.And 0620z- US5CCO came into JA with 59, then LZ,SP,SV,S5,9A,YU,I,SV9,YO,9H,DL,OE,HB9 and others... all strong. The short-path condx last 0850z. It is about 2.5 hours.Around 13z YV5LIX, WP4KJJ, HP1AC and others came into JA via LP. Seeming like sun presents us crest condx before going to sleep. FB DX.

Dear Peter, one thing I forgot to say was that the band has large noise source; natual and artificial. Natural noise source include galaxy, sun or thunder; for artificial noise source I need not to say. The advantage of stacked Yagis is providing better S/N ratio at receiving.Since horizontally poralized, vertically stacked Yagis have sharp main lobe in vertical plane, any unwanted cosmic- or ground noise is eliminated and the S/N ratio of target signal is much improved (10-20dB). Although the difference of EIRP between your side and mine should be compensated by my side's improvement of S/N ratio, still I am likely to be deaf.Sri. Disadvantage of stacking Yagis is a little weak at the propagation which need high elevation angle, such as Es and Es-F2 linked props. But I believe of 95% are OK by stack.FB DX!

A powerful solar explosion on Thursday, Oct 25th, sent a coronal mass ejection (CME) billowing toward Earth. The expanding cloud could trigger auroras when it reaches our planet on Oct 27th or 28th. If so, the coming weekend would be the second in a row that high-latitude sky watchers have enjoyed Northern Lights. Visit spaceweather.com for more information about the solar blast and the approaching CME.

Dear Han, Yes I understand. From my time in H44 I know the level of activity (and hence qrm) on 6m in JA. My site is "perfect" - very low noise - good take-off. It takes me <5minutes to get my /P station QRV. I would like a much bigger / higher antenna but that would slow me down. 400w is my license limit (and the limit of my 4WD alternator / battery!) There are legal kW stations in UK plus many who have very big amplifiers and get mysteriously louder when calling DX ;-) 73

Heads up for tonight! We see all those spots of 46.172 in EU, and what a frustrating tease that is! Had Grunten Germany E2 TV last night 0840-0855 peaking S9 as well as Portugal. Something on Madrids freq but not sure if Madrid went QRT or not... could be an unlisted Thai standby exciter if not Madrid. Plenty of other Thai E2 as well as 49.750. There is one rogue 49.750 TX that has a birdie right on 50.110 and of course every 15.625kHz either side. Not helpful! If you suspect a path to Northern VK4 then it doesn't hurt to call on 105 or 115 - then we have a chance of hearing you. 095, 110 & 125 useless when R1/C1 TEP is in. Using an IC-756 with CR-64 Hi-stab and Digipan to ID carriers. It works well, once calibrated & I recommend it! Please listen for VK4CP signing portable in QH30!

Hi Peter and gents. We had HP and TI on around 15z and KL7 and W on 23z. Assuming a boost by ground reflection as 6dB, a 5-el Yagi will produce 14 dBi (x25) main lobe at real space and 400W output at tx mean 25 x 400 = 10kW EIRP. I am running a legal kW linear amp and two 10.7m boom Yagis to produce nearly 100kW EIRP toward main lobe. That's the reason why Drago wrote JAs as 'deaf' on DX Summit. Please be patient.

Made 6 Qs with EUs today. Sorry that I could not copy OZ3K, DJ5JK and other stations on 90.3 in real time. Morse code was chopped by rapid QSB. I copied only .5. or .5T. who was PA5TA or 4AO. or J4A.. or ....X ....x ....X who was DJ5AX. Had buzz. EME is easier than the skewed path on six. Till November we will have this path between Asia and EU.When calling a station in relatively weak condx please try to transmit in slow and repeat for a few times. If you are called by many JAs at once please specify "up" and listen up 0.5-1k(CW) or 5k-10k(SSB) by your RIT. FB DX

These days the 6m band is proving why it is called the 'Magic Band'. Have worked into Eu the last 2 days around 14z the highlight being ZC4FL also worked W6,7's, E. Caribbean stns, VP8DBL (big sig), All over SA. Finally this evening was listening to KP4's on BS over Af when 4S7EE came booming in. We exchanged 57&59 true reading on this side. Very strange path looking over AF to 4S. Would that be F2 scatter??? Anyway 4S7EE said he is good in all of the callbooks. I looked on the internet and cannot find any address and do not own a CB. Could someone pse email me with his address. Thanks in advance. I will be beaming EU or JA lp every morning depending on the video until this prop changes so hope to work many of you. Jon, glad OY6SMC/B is back on air. GB3LER has, I believe, been using dipoles for some years successfully which have the advantage over verticals of higher angle of radiation. This could be a good thing at 62 deg North as it should improve performance of the beacon during Ar events. Perhaps crossed dipoles (sometimes known as a turnstile) one running NE/SW and the other NW/SW would be a good setup. Technically need to remember to use a 1/4 wave phasing line when feeding the second dipole. 73

Good EU opening today, but footprint quite small. Some F,CT,EH,I,IS0,IG9, 9H and my highlight was HEARING E30NA. He was on110 SSB working EU's. By the time he QSY'd to 114 and started to work NA, he was into the noise.(SOB!) At leastI heard him. Shame about "110" and only SSB. Maybe next time. Good AU in progress as I type. GL DX- Mike

Another DXpedition of the Bavarian Contest Club (BCC) with DL5NAM, OE2VEL, DJ7EO and DK7YY starts now. Main-activity is planned for the CQWWDX, but they will be on Six again. There is no operator especially for Six, but they will call CQ from time to time. The SIX-communtiy is asked to look for the HF-cluster-spots to find them on shortwave and to inform the crew about possible band-openings. There will be no activity before Oct 18! Expected start on Saturday or Sunday, Oct 20/21. PSE QRX for online logs - all data will be transfered to the Webserver as quick as possible. More details available on the E30NA website

Having listened to Kees, PE1MCD clip of VK6RSX, I can certainly confirm that that is the keying cycle of the beacon at Dampier! It runs 50W to an omni antenna. Unfortunately at present there are no amateurs active in the immediate vicinity of the beacon, but it is located at a favorable latitude to act as an early warning of propagation to areas in VK6 where ther may be activity on 6. Thanks Kees.

First JA-ZF contact occured today at 1406Z btw JR2HCB and myself with amazing signals 59 sent and 57 rec'd. The path was LP also heard PY9MP which surprised me. I made 3 contacts on .110 and realized the pile up was massive so moved to .115 even tried split but that did not work and did not want to press issue. ZF1RC rec'd frantic call from me saying to come home QUICK. He made a few contacts and was off again. Anyway the opening lasted until 1500Z with the last contact made with JA5FDJ. All contacts were S3-S9 SSB. What a pile up!!! I believe there was another stn on .115 that the JA's were trying to work as well as me. Thanks to all the JA's for contacts and hope to experience another opening like today's soon. 73's

This is late, but should help some of the 6m ops in Europe. I will be activating the ANGUILLA HF contest station VP2E with 6 meter gear starting 22 Oct thru 28 Oct. My primary frequency will be 50.102 USB simplex. There will be a "breakable" CW beacon on 50.102.7 when I'm not screaming into the mic, or the band is dead. I can work USB or CW. Rig is 100 watts into a 6 element yagi. The beacon will be active at times with no operator present. We are getting the station ready for CQWW SSB, and will be doing tower work at times. I will be checking the "Magic Band Live" internet site and 28.885 MHz USB, as time permits. For email prior to my leaving Texas, you can email me at: k5ab@texas.net Again, the complete station callsign will be VP2E. Be sure to work us on HF in the CQWW SSB contest as well! Taken from the internet ...but only seen it posted on 50MHz.com mailing list so far ... 50 MHz DX Alert from K5AND, W7XU & W0SD The primary purpose of our trip is for six meter contacts, but we plan to be QRV on all bands from 160-6. Dates: Leaving from US on Wed., Oct. 24; should be QRV from Elmina, Ghana on Friday, Oct. 26. Last day for operating will be Sunday, Nov. 4; we will QRT about 1700 GMT on that day. Grid: IJ95IN, but please note: Do not send grid squares with sig reports...we will not have time to acknowledge this. Beacon frequency: 50.106 (unless there are birdies there) Modes: When conditions are marginal, we will be on CW; when the band is open, we will be on SSB. Call: 9G5SIX; if this changes, we won't know until we get there and will then put the word out on 28885. 50 MHz gear: Two FT-100D, 3CX800 amp, 7el yagi on 27'boom, two memory/beacon keyers, 25' rotating mast (on top of 15' building 50' from the ocean). IC-706 and rotatable loop for 28885. HF gear: FT-746 with Acom KW amp; wires, verticals and loops for 160-10 meters; this station will primarily be manned by Ed, W0SD. That's the story. Please pray for a safe trip and good propagation. 73, Dick, Arliss and Ed

de OA/N6XQ...I depart Sun and should be on the air 0800Z 15 Oct. I will only have a shot to the northerm hemisphere from Lima. I will also be looking for Eu in the earlier window 13-14Z. I will have no shot to JA LP until we head to OA5 later in the week. OA4AHW and perhaps OA4DJW will accompany me for part of the trip. OA4DJW has been using my 706 for the last few weeks from his house in Lima with a 3 el yagi.He has made quite a few contacts, but I think only the Americas. My phone number in Lima is 224-2006. The country and city code is 51-1. Ask for Jack Henry or the loco radio aficionado. I hope we can work..73 Jack

First F2 of the season here started prior to 1126 UTC with a strong dead carrier with QSB on 50.025 believed to be a French STL. This was followed by 59+ signals from France (six stations were worked) and weaker signals heard from Italy. A weak EH1 was heard calling on CW ~ 50.106 but I did not get the full call. This is early in the season for high latitude F2- A very good sign! Best 73 es DX...

Ive just read this from the latest OPDX news. Dont "shoot the messenger", but maybe Eric can contact them...? John, N4MM, informed the users of the NJDXA's DX Reflector that three TT8 Chad operations are NOT good for DXCC. The reason given by the DXCC Desk is that NO documentation has been received at ARRL. Both TT8DX and TT8JE, which have been on recently, are not being accepted for DXCC. F5OGL is the QSL Manager for TT8DX, and John suggests that someone should get the word to these stations and tell them that their QSLs are no good for DXCC unless proper documentation is received at ARRL HQ DXCC Desk. John also mentioned that Bill Moore, NC1L, told him that there are many others from TT8 which are not being accepted due to the same problem.

Just a short note to summarise the operation of the Bristol Contest Group from Curacao (FK52) during July 2001.We were there between 20th July and 31st July, primarily to operate HF and the IOTA contest. Three of us (G4FKA, M0AXF, M0WLF) also operated 50MHz. There were only two days when the conditions got to dry land. Normal skip seems to be to uninhabited ocean!! As PJ2/G4FKA, I worked 37 stations in W/K on 20th July in various squares, mainly EM, EL, FM and DN, and ZF1DC in EK99. Not great strengths, typically S3-5. On 21st the only QSO was 4M1X, just before the island received its IOTA reference. Finally 22nd, with 4 USA and 1 CO in FL11. And that was it. We put out CW/SSB calls on several days with no return. It was frustrating to hear that EU was being worked from further east in the Caribbean but the lift didn't get to the Antilles. Did anyone by chance hear us but we didn't hear them? I'd be interested to know. Geoff G4FKA.

Hi all, Just wanted to say what a wondeful time I had at the W6JKV BBQ. It was a pleasure to meet all of you many of whom I have worked and others I wish I could work. I have added some pictures of the event to my website and will be updating the page in the near future. If anyone has any pictures of the BBQ that they would like me to add to the site please send them to me via email. Thanks and CU on the band. 73's
